    Hi
I purchased HP 200e external DVD drive and it came with all the software and manuals.
The instructions tell me to plug in the USB cable and the PC should detect the drive.

    It does not.

When I plug in the USB cable the PC does nothing.
The Drive wakes up and spins, but PC takes no action.

    Can someone please help.

Do you have any trouble with your USB ports

    Thanks for your help.
I already tried all of that and it does not help.
I tried all of it again after reading your post and it still does not help.

The drive light comes up but it is as if Win XP home(Ser Pack 2 installed) does not recognize it at all.

    No drive is assigned.
None of the software recognizes the drive.
As far is Win XP is concerned the drive does not exist or is not connected.

I even went through ADD REMOVE HW myself.
But there is nothting there that even closely resembles the HP DVD writer.

Any help anyone can give will be much appreciated

    Are your ports working?

Yes the port seems to be working. Because when I plug in the USB cable the Drive's activity light turns on, and the drive spins.

Also I tried in every single port, and it does not make a differance.

    Any help will be appreciated.

I not sure if the power light means the port is working. Do you have any other USB devices. Check your device manager to make sure the ports are enabled.

Maybe updated chipset and USB drivers would help ;)
