Hi I just bought my HP300i DVD writer. I works fine... but if i put a dvd in it, I can hear a light click sound every 5-10 seconds. It works fine... but has anyone else experience the same with their 300i?
I also have a new 300i. I also use a 200i, and initially used a 100i The 300i like its predesessors is a true wealth of sound effects. I have not heard any short periodic clicking as you describe however. It does occasionally make a pleasant "searing" sound when burning suggesting that the "mightly little laser" may be about to cut clean through the bottom of my PC...that hasn't happened yet of course. I would suggest liiking inside when the draw is open to make sure there is no foreign body (eg packing material) inside, and of course the usual caveat about "what length screw did you use when mounting it in the cabinet---preferably the ones that came with it" Best of luck.
