I've had HP 740i drive since March and successfully burned 100+ dvds with it. But the lightscribe suddenly stopped working for me. First indication there was a problem was when the light kept blinking for awhile after I put the disc in label down. Afterwards, SureThing gave a lightscribe engine error. One said it didn't recognize the disc and to make sure it was a lightscribe disc with label down. Then it ejected it again with an internal error. I've already tried updating the firmware from the hp site and the lightscribe system software from www.lightscribe.com. I also tried reinstalling the drive, nero, and SureThing. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\allocatecdroms is also 0. Both HP and Verbatim dvds have worked for me. Does anyone have any other ideas I can try? I don't want to throw it away since it was working well.
yea my Drive wont Read CD-r's but i havent had a problem with my lightscribe or DVD Side of it....your laser might be going out on ya....
Well it sounds like you've been working that drive. I bought an HP laptop last year and have ton alot of burns too...but the drive hasn't stopped working yet. Only advice that I can give you at the moment is to go to www.lightscribe.com and from there go to the the "Contact Us" page. I've had some people give great feedback thee, and they have helped me fix the problem with my drives. If there are any technical issues you might have about it. Just to there.
