I recently purchased an HP Pavilion zv6000 (laptop) with a Lightscribe 8x burner. Device manager claims it's a "TSST CORP CD/DVDW TS-L532M" When I try and burn my backup ISOs, they are only readable in the drive itself... not my DVD player. It is also readable in my old tower (in an Optorite DD1205), so I am assuming that the drive is doing a weird thing w/ regions, but I don't know how to fix this. The same ISO is burned properly in the Optorite and recognized by the dvd player. I can't seem to find any firmware information for the laptop drive, so I was wondering if anybody here has encountered this or has a solution. Thanks in advance.

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion zv8000 (laptop) with a Lightscribe 8x burner. I have the same problems the Device manager claims it's a "TSST CORP CD/DVDW TS-L532M" When I try and burn my backup's, or make home movies into DVDs they are only readable sometimes in the drive itself... not my DVD player and if they do they freeze up, I know it is not my DVD player it is a Bose Lifestyle. also other programs like DVD Shrink do not even recognize it., so I also am assuming that the drive is not worth a crap, I don't know how to fix this. I can't seem to find any firmware information for the laptop drive and so far Hp is no help. Has anybody else encountered this and have a solution. Thanks in advance. My next stop is the return desk at HP...

I sent another e-mail to HP tech support about the burner problem and this is their reply. I am not the most computer smart person but this sound like a lot of work to have to do on a new computer? Also can any one tell me is this going to delete everything on my hard drive that I have installed encluding my files?
    Alan,

Thank you for writing back to us.

I am sorry to know that the issue is unresolved. Generally, the issue resolves by the steps provided in our earlier message. However, if the issue persists then I suggest you to perform the following steps:

    Repair Operating System:

To reformat the hard drive and restore the operating system, use the Windows XP OS CD that was shipped with the notebook. To do so follow these steps:

    1. Connect the notebook to external power and turn on the notebook.
    2. Immediately insert the OS CD into the notebook.
    3. Reboot the notebook.
    4. Windows setup screen will be displayed. Wait while the setup loads the appropriate drivers.
    5. On the next screen (Welcome screen) press the Enter key to continue.
    6. Accept the End User License Agreement on the next screen by pressing
    F8 key.
    7. On the next screen, press Esc key to install a fresh copy of the operating system.
    8. Highlight the partition where the Windows operating system is installed and press the D key to delete the partition.
    9. Press the Enter key to delete the partition.
    10. Press the L key to delete the partition.
    11. Press the Enter key to setup Windows in the unpartitioned space.
    12. Accept the default partition size or type a new one (in MegaBytes) into the entry field and then press the Enter Key to create the partition.
    13. Press the Enter key to setup Windows on the new partition.
    14. Choose the <Quick> or standard formatting option and then press Enter.

Setup display a progress screen while partition is formatted. When setup has completed the partition, it begins copying the files. After Windows configuration is initialized, Setup displays a notice to reboot the computer.

    15. Press the Enter key to reboot.
    16. Once the Windows reboots, you must complete the Windows Out-Of-Box-Experience(OOBE).
    17. Reload all the applications and drivers using the Driver Recovery CD included with the notebook and also all the software you wish to install.

Same deal with my new HP DV1340US. Has same DVD combo writer. I have wasted 6 Verbatim Lightscribe DVD+R's so far trying to get one to burn correctly. I think it is the media. HP Support tells me I have to use HPBranded DVD+R media to ensure compatibility. Have successfuly burned DVD+R's using Verbatim standard blank media (Ricoh according to DVD Identifier. The Lightscribe Verbatim DVD+R's are Mitsubishi according to DVD identifier. I will be looking for some HP branded DVD+R's and/or Ricoh that are Lightscribe type to see if they work better. In themean time I have been unable to find a firmware update for this writer that could possibly address this issue. The writer by the way is a Toshiba/Samsung device. Hope this info is helpfull and good luck!

I convinced HP to send me a new burner "TSST CORP CD/DVDW TS-L532M" (Same type), I installed it and my problems went away. I have burned several home and rented movies and all work great.
