hp dvd writer 840i speed problems

    Ive just changed my dvd writer from a 840e to a 840i and when I back up dvds using clonedvd2 it takes about 45 mins to burn to disk. this did not happen in the 840e it took about 25-30 mins, Im using good quality dvds (verbitim taiyo yuden) tried it at x4 and 8x. Looked on hp website for newer firmware but dosnt exsist. Also looked at IDE channel and thats ok. Dont know where to go from here and help would be great.
