After about 3 months of faithful service, my burner has quit recognizing DVDs. I burnt a few DVDs & CDs in the first few months, then did more just lately and then I burnt 30 CDs in one day a couple of weeks ago. I think I burnt a couple more DVDs after that, then 30 more CDs in one day last week. Since then, I don't think it has worked with a DVD. I burnt my FIRST 2 coasters (DVD+R) a couple of days ago, and now it won't even recognize a DVD. When I load one (blank, manufactured, dirty, clean) the light comes on for ~20sec and then blinks non-stop. CDs still play & read, but I haven't tried to burn another one. Is there a utility that will analyze the drive & test it? It wouldn't even recognize my (CD) lens cleaner.
"This device is working properly." It suggests the troubleshooter, but it only deals with CD drives - not DVD. The only options in the troubleshooter are: "Yes, my drive can read a CD-ROM, but it can't play an audio CD" and "No, my drive can't read a CD-ROM." But mine WILL read a CD-ROM AND an audio CD. It just won't read a DVD. (And yes, I had a DVD in it when I looked in Device Manager and it was blinking.) In System Information, it said there was no media in the drive.
