my mom has the above computer and i want to upgrade it for her so im gonna get her a gig of ram and a new vid card only problem is that i dont know if it is 2x/4x or 4x/8x or what but i do know that it has a agp slot but the manufacturer site just says 3 pci and 1 agp slot so does anyone know which one it is
Youll be wanting an AGP 8x Graphics card and some PC2100 DDR memory (266MHz) Find out how many free spaces you have for memory before you buy any
well all she has is like 256 or something and she only has 2 dimm slots so i was just going to pick up 2 512 sticks but thanks on the agp slot all i have ever used is pci
according to this link the agp is 4x. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/..._page=prodinfoCategory&cc=ca&docname=bph07585
Yes it is only AGP 4x but 4x and 8x uses the same slot does it not and i also believe that you cant buy AGP 4x specific graphic cards anymore
hey ddp this is what i was goin to get her all she does surf the net and right now all she has is intergrated so it will have to be an improvement http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814121181
@SypherTek: Sure ya can bud....there's still quite a few out there. TigerDirect has a few left over from that era, MX 400 cards, and Radeon 7000s. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?page=3&Nav=|c:318|&Sort=3&Recs=10
ecknight, go for it if all she does is surf the net but why get her a gig of ram? what windows is she using & what is the comp specs?
its an amd 2000 and right now it only has 256meg with 32 of that being shared she has xp but for some reason her comp boots and runs really slow and when i take a look at task manger usuage is upwards around 100 at least 90 and ive ran every spyware and antivirus that i can think of so im hopin that the ram and vid card will help out and i can get a gig for like 70 bucks from newegg so i thought hell why not and in the future she wont have to update it anymore cause that is all it will hold
