Hi guys. i have a HP dvdwriter 840b. I can't seem to burn any cd's what so ever. I can read cds and burn all types of dvds but not cds. I called hp. Those guys dont know what's wrong. Anywhere here experienced the same problem as me?

I have the same hp writer. I also had the same problem w/ my dvd burner not my cd burner (which are one in the same). Have you been burning a lot of cds? I had burned quite a few dvds when I started having problems. Not recognizing some dvds, but others would. Only burning on some types of media and not others (that it had in the past). Anyway, I too called hp and their solution was a total system recovery. That was unacceptable to me so I just replaced the drive with a NEC 3550. I haven't been using it long, but this is supposed to be a good burner (for dvds at least).

Sorry, I know this doesn't help your cause. But just thought you'd like to know since we had the same writer.
