    Hi,

This is my first HTPC build and have been lurking around here for a while so thought I'd join up :)
Basic background, will be for purely Home Theater reasons (no gaming etc) and just want all my DVD's/Blu-Ray discs on a Hard drive and then watch them on the TV.
Hopefully will be quiet as possible - unsure on the case !

    System:
Gigabyte AMD 780G HDMI Mobo (best one recommended?)
    G Skill 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB HD
    Antec EA650W Power Supply
AMD Athlon X2 4850e (most efficient processor?)
    LITE-On Blu-Ray drive
IN WIN Black steel HTPC Case.

Unsure on operating system at the moment - probably just go with Windows XP for now and will use ANY HDDVD, Power DVD, Media Portal etc.
Am I correct in thinking the onboard soundcard will produce 7.1 output or shall I invest in a soundcard?

    Thanks for you help

It will produce 7.1 but you're much better off with a seperate sound card, not not straight away, at least look at it as a dedicated upgrade path.
