Well...you must be wondering what my dilemma is...here it is.

I am quite knowlegdeable on using dvd shrink and converting to different file types. However...i am at a stalemate with this.

I have a series called "Lost" on avi format. I used avi converter to convert the files to .vob. Now, i proceeded to DVD shrink where all my files were analyzed. I didn't want to compress..i simply wanted to burn my files. You may be wondering why i didn't just use Nero for such an easy task...well i tried using Nero numerous times to burn these files and they don't work on my dvd player. The discs i am using are dvd-r...and my dvd player plays dvd-ram and other dvd-r types...i mean i've done it before. I have two of these same dvd players and none of the discs work on them. Anyways...i figured Nero was screwing with me...so using DVD shrink...i first backed up my files onto my desktop...then i burned the dvd using the burn function. So i thought this would solve my problems...cuz i mean...i use dvd shrink all the time to shrink dvds i rent at the store and then i burn them onto a dvd-r. So when i try playing the disc on my dvd player...the disc plays...but i get no visual..i can see the time clicking away but the dvd player logo just stays there. I AM SO AGGRAVATED...ANYONE...PLEAZ HELP ME. Am i using the right programs...or doing the right things..also...when an avi file gets converted to a .vob file..there is usually 2-3 files associated with it...such as a .BUP file or an .IFO file....are these files important?...cuz i am including them in the files when i burn them.
    PLEAZ REPLY ASAP

-if you have any confusion as to what the hell i'm saying...just ask me to clarify. I did do this in kind of a hurry.

I'm not familiar with Avi Converter. Is it an authoring program?
If not, you need to use an authoring program to create dvd compliant file sets.

The commercial dvd's you have previously backed up were of course already in dvd compliant formats, so any burning method should have worked as long as you did it correctly.

Hope this helps. You gave a lot of info. Above is how my brain interpreted it. 8D

yeah, its confusing. if you don't want compression then you can choose no compression but if you want it to fit on a single layered dvd you will have to compress. if you are not letting it compress and burning it then it will not play properly. you'll need to seperate it.

    hi

    ok yes bit lost here?

are there more than 1 avi you are placing into shirink like 6 for 6 episodes?

are you placing all files of bup/ifo/vob in a folder called VIDEO_TS and burning?

try checking the avi's with divfix before encoding!

not used avi convertor? have you tried divxtodvd its free!

also for avi i use film machine / CCE or Avi2dvd / CCE

from what you say its EITHER the avi or the encoding tool/process, as you say normal dvds with the same media disc you use are good to go!

    need more info....

right mates...here we go with some clarification.

I am not using multiple files for this...i am simply using one avi file to test it out first. So i converted this avi file to a dvd file with win avi. I saved the output file to my desktop. After the conversion was done i opened the newly created file and saw that it had a IFO file, .bup file, a _ts file, and finally my dvd file(vob). So i figured everything was set to dvd format, so i headed to Nero Start Smart and clicked burn a DVD...i dragged whatever was in the VIDEO_TS folder onto the program and i simply burned it. Again, the dvd disc i used was a dvd-r. I popped it into the dvd player connected to my tv and it was playing, but i got no audio or visual. So like i said previously, i thought Nero was messed up...so i tried Nero one more time, now using the DVD data function. This didn't either. I then proceeded to DVD shrink..i mean it's a good converter and it has an automatic burn feature. I've used the bloody program to shrink dvds and to burn them using the SAME DVD-Rs...and they work fine on my dvd player. Anyways...so dvd shrink analyzed the VOB file that winavi had created for me...i then backed it up onto my desktop and i burned it to a disc. The same problem came up with the no audio and no visual thing. I can see the time ticking away but the dvd logo just stays on the screen. So that's my dilemma...idk if it has anything to do with winavi...cuz i mean it's a reliable program. Or if it has anything to do with the IFO and BUP...cuz i have no idea what those files are. SO PLEAZZZZ

    Cheers mates...thanks for the help.

    hi

so you burned the VIDEO_TS folder aswell when you dragged the files over to nero?

but anyhoo's if you used dvd shrink to burn (with nero engine) it should of sorted the folder thing anyway...

bup/ifo just tell the dvd player what to do! vob are the video/audio

ermm? winavi cant remeber if i tried that avi convertor? i have treid so many now! so not sure what its capable of?

so tell me you have used winavi before with avi and its been ok yes???????

do the vobs play ok in powerdvd?

    dear Mr. Rotary,

I have used avi converter before to convert my anime files into dvd files. It's worked fine. And as for power dvd...i've tested the file on power dvd and it works perfectly fine. It's just the problem with external dvd players. I don't know what to do.
