Please help as I have a receding hairline as it is.

I have a Sony KD28 CRT TV with inbuilt digital.

All I am trying to do is video freeview chanels to my VCR so it should be a real simple set-up.

The problem is the VCR only records the chanel if the TV is on. Once you switch the TV off the recording goes black.

Is this a connection problem? problem with the TV? or problem with the VCR?

    HELP!

I'm somewhat confused as to what you are doing but this is my guess. You have A/V outputs from the TV going to your VCR. If this is the case then yes it will only record signal with the TV on. To record with the VCR only you would need some type of external signal source (example as in a dish receiver) into the the VCR with the VCR set on channel 3 or 4. Or record directly off the VCR tuner but then you are limited to only the VCR's ability. If you are using the TV tuner's capabilities for the signal source then the TV has to be on. Did I read your post right or did I miss something??
