Every movie that I rip using shrink or DVD encryptor or even DVD xcopy work fine, but about hald way through the movie just starts stuttering and then locks up.

Any suggestions as to what may be causing this????

    System: Athlon XP 2500+
    512 DDR 400 Ram
    120Bg WD HD
    Windows XP

Not sure what the brand of burner is need to take the case apart. The media I used was KHypermedia

    Hiya,

    Classic symptoms of CRAPPY MEDIA...

    Cheap disks are false economy...

Ritek G04 or Verbatim Metal AZO are good quality media to start out with.

We need to know a LOT more about your system, eg:
    Version of Windows.
Make and Model of DVD Burner.
    Burning program.

    Have Fun...

I have had no trouble using VERBATIM DVD-RW, TDK+/-R, IMITATION and MEMOREX. I had one partial failure using ULTRA DVD+R. The last 20 minutes of the movie started freezing, skipping, etc. I made several other copies using ULTRA DVD+R with no trouble at all.

Not all bad media will fail. But after switching to Ritek myself my number of coasters is down to 1 every 200 or so.

    pa104inf,

You might just want to be a little more careful with your recommendation of Memorex. I have heard numbers as high as 50 % of their media failed during burning. That was from a 100-pack purchase, needless to say, the guy wasn't overly happy.

Remember, they just purchase discs and have their name put on them by who ever has their contract today :-( Recently their reputation, how shall I put this to get my meaning across, well let's say that Linda Lovelace would be worried about some serious competition - it could also be said, they truly SUCKUTH !

    Pete

Yo “Doc”, your head is starting to swell. See that, ya smack just one a*#swipe back into reality and you’re getting’ a God complex - lol

Just to confirm that memorex sucks... I was searching the forums to see why my backups were skating from start to finish and it is like you suggest from bad media. I just iopened a 25 pack of memorex and the first four out of the pack are bad. I have used memorex since my first burn but always in 5 packs with no problems. Just goes to show they are hit and miss...time to switch!!

testercle, interesting nick you got there. You said you just cracked open a fresh pack of Memorex, right? Would you be so kind as to run one through DVD Info Pro and let us know who manufactured the discs? I'd love to know who they're buying from now.
