I am a total NOOB at this and I hope you guys can help me. I am pulling my hair out right now. I am running Nero 6 Ultra Edition with all of the most recent updates. The type of DVD burner I am using is a MAD DOG MD-16XDVD9 usb external. I am running Windows XP professional w/ service pack 1. I have experienced the issue using 2 different types of DVD media (fuji 8x DVD+R and Memorex 16x DVD+R).

When trying to burn a DVD through Nero, the process gets all the way to where its trying to write the lead out, then it stops so the DVD burn is never completed. I am not sure if this is a issue with my DVD burner or the Nero 6 UE software. Here is the log that was generated after the failed Burn. Thank for your help in advance.

    - firmware i think is up to date, however see a few paragraphs down..

    - that question mark is fine as your burner is usb

    - make sure to close down more programs prior to all burning/dvd work

    - you're burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - firmware i think is up to date, but this line is saying the firmware doesn't recognise the media you're using. This 3liner paragraph is an example of what you see when the firmware recognises media -
    - let's try and figure out what the media is, as your firmware can't do that... download dvd identifier (free) http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm and 'identify' one of those discs and paste results here

    - most ppl recommend 4x for movie burning

    - get rid of Nero's horrid InCD program. uninstall Nero, uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools and reinstall Nero WITHOUT installing InCD

no worries. now that is odd, there's nothing out of the ordinary about those discs, they're been around a fair old while too i think, so imagine the firmware is actually out of date after all, or this burner has been forgotten along the way, ie maybe the company has stopped producing firmware a while back. maybe you have a link for their website, i can't say i've ever had need to go look for a mad dog site before.

Hi I am having problems with Nero Vision Express not sure if you are using this for Burning but I read in another forum that if using Nero Vision Express write to Hard Disk first then burn with Nero Burning Rom. Since I am not having problems Burning with the Nero engine just Nero Vision Express 3 latest vesion . So I am going to try this today and see what happens also Nero does not Convert AVI or SVCD. Which are some of the files I am trying to Burn mixed in with Mpeg's . will let you know what solution I find .

Thanks a bunch for the feed back. Its good to know you have a place where you can get answers to your questions.

I do have another question, if you guys dont mind. I was looking at the log from Nero I posted above. Could you tell me what the following means? Also, I would like to know why my Nero cant do this using my burner. I checked my burner and both "disc at once" and "orverrburn" are supported.

    [bold]10:57:49 AM #30 TRANSFER -24 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 167
Could not perform end of Disc-at-once[/bold]

i always ignore that line as i interpret it to be purely an explanatory line, and a symptom of the other problems, as detailed above..
