I downloaded some AVI video files and when I tried to burn them with nero or any other program it shuts down my computer, this happens when it starts to encode to mpeg or anything else I even tried to use a video converter and it does the same thing. Someone told me that it might be copyright protected but I don't know why anyone who pirates movies would do that. Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem?

You wan't to encode your AVI files to MPEG1 (VCD) or MPEG2 (SVCD)? If not then you burn the AVI files with Nero as "data" at 8x.

What I'm trying to say is: Do you wan't to encode (convert) your AVI file(s) to VCD, SVCD?

Then you need these tools m8.

    DVD Decryptor or SmartRipper(DVD rip)
    DVD2SVCD
CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder), TMPEnc Plus, or Canopus ProCoder and your good to go. These encoders are trial only, other 2 programs are freebies.

    1. Make sure your AVI file doesnt have compressed audio, most convertors dont seem to like that.

    2. Since you already have the AVI file you dont really need DVD Decryptor/SmartRipper. All you have to do is to pass the AVI file through the encoder proggie (say, TMPEGEnc), try using the default SVCD settings and it should, after some time, output an MPG/MPEG file which you can then burn as an SVCD

I tried it and It still shuts down my computer.
When I turn the tower back on nothing happens and there is audio coming out say something like "system failed computer" So I have to turn the main power board off.

So like, have you tried just TMPGEnc yet?? and does it just make your computer just switch off altogether?

Yes I did try Tmpegenc and it still shut down my computer but it only shuts down the tower almost like its in standby except I can't turn it back on unless I turn off the main power board.

I wouldnt think that would be your problem, do u have a lot of programs running at once because encoders need a lot of resources to work properly!

Yeh, At first when I thought there was no problem I tried to burn It with AOL and Kazaa on and then I tried restarting the computer and not opening anything but the burn program.

Does it shut down right away or does it shut down after, say 3 hours? (i.e., any power saving features active either BIOS/Windows?)
