make sure your battery has a full charge,
that you put the update in the PSP/GAME folder,
    follow the instructions,
ive done 3 1000's and two 2000's so far

I finally got mine done with some help from another forum.

    http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=143506

Get the xgen-v2.rar from the link and do as instructed.
Copy it onto your PSP and then run it from the memory stick.

Once complete check your version and all should be well.

Also after it has worked turn the unit of and then back on in RECOVERY mode (hold down right trigger when pressing on button) then go to configuration and setting the No UMD driver?

All now working sweetly. you still need to decrypt for new games.

I just realised I needed to DL UMDGen to be able to encrypt my GT file...
I've updated my PSP 2000 to 5.50Gen-B2, now I'm not too sure what to do with UMDGen.... I opened my GT file in UMDGen and extracted EBoot.bin.... so do I just drag the extracted EBoot.bin file into MP_Root in my MS Duo and then start the decryptor on my PSP????
what do I do after that????? Is tat it???

Almost, now that it has patched it, it will safe it in a newly made decrypted folder on the root of your memory card. Now all you need to do is copy it to sysdir in your iso or cso overriding the old one. Now you have a patched iso. Copy to your mem card and play. Enjoy :)!

Yes you do what you have said. Then when it's decrypted, go back to USB mode and on the card will be a new directory called DECRYPTOR which will contain the changed file (delete the one in the root).
Drag the file from that folder into the ISO where you took it from and overwrite. Then save it back out and all should be good.

Step 8 of the guide says:
    Quote:
    8. Enable USB from the XMB again; copy the encrypted EBOOT.BIN to your memory stick root.

What is memory stick root???? is that the MS_Root folder??

I dunno where to put the extracted file to.... I've tried placing in diff folders and it says no eboot.bin file found....

    advise please..

    Yes its the MS_Root folder
If your psp memory card comes up as X:\ in explorer click on that and then put it in there.

Basically don't put the file in any folder on the memory card.

    Glad you got it working.

For those having trouble with 550.PBP download the following http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1712

Then rename the EBOOT.PBP to 550.PBP as instructed in the XGEN UPDATER readme file.

guys, im having this problem too. im trying to play gran turismo on 5.00 M33. i took the EBOOT.BIN out of the iso and put it on my memory stick. i had to do all this crazy stuff with disk utility (i have a mac) and folder-to-ISO conversion. so i start up the games decrypter i found on psp-hacks.com, and it gives me an error message. it may be because in the description it says "for 5.50 GEN-B" and im on 5.00 M33. but idk. why doesn't someone just do this for both 5.00 and 5.50 and post up the ISOs?

It's not exactly easy for everyone to make everything work with everything. If you can upgrade to a 5.50 gen, do it. There are no issues with which the new fix was made for.
