I use dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, along with Nero buring rom (without in-cd),defrag often, have plenty of free hd space (50Gb), and have current nero updates as well as current ASPI drivers. I have used junk media dvd+R (GQ from fry's outpost), with a success rate of around 90%. I bought another bulk pack and have had no sucess, so I bought Verbatim dvd-r 4x, and have had about a 25% success rate. I have no problems ripping the image to my hd and burning it. The finished dvd will no longer play on my stand alone player. my ps2 has some trouble reading it, but after a short while it will play it. I'm buring at 2x (4x max) and have set the target size to 4300Mb.
My most recent attempt of backing up 'a bug's life' was not successful, so i reauthored it to just the movie, and had no success. please give me your thoughts on what I may be missing. I'd hate to think my stand alone player is bad because it is fairly new and has worked trouble free for around 4 months.

Try creating an image (iso) file with DVD Shrink. Then use DVD Decrypter to burn the image file. If that works, you probably need to uninstall Nero, use the Nero Cleaning Tool, and then reinstall Nero. It could also just be that your drive doesn't like the media you're feeding it. What model and brand of drive do you have? Will the burned disks play back on the drive that burned it?

I'm using A Emprex brand 8x -+R/-+RW. not sure about the model number. The media I'm using right now is verbatim -r. The most recently burned 'bug's life' that I made of only the main movie will play from the dvd burner, but will not play on the stand alone. I will

but I'm not to sure what is meant by the 'Nero cleaning Tool'.

The nero general clean tool removes all vestiges of Nero from the registry etc. Uninstalling Nero leaves bits and pieces about so the clean tool is needed to wipe all from the system. It can be found and downloaded here:

Standalones are sometimes very picky with burned media, including the type. Verbatim -R media is generally OK. What brand is the standalone player and does it play both +R and -R as well as -RW and +RW media?

Thanks for your help and patience laddy.
    My stand alone is a Samsung DS-100 and claims to play: Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, JPEG, MP-3, S-VCD, Video CD.
I will uninstall, clean up, defrag, and reinstall Nero.
I am currently using using Nero Ultra 6,which includes: Nero 6 Ultra Ed., Nero Vis Exp, Nero Mix,and Nero PhotoShow Exp.
I did have in-cd installed, but when I read that in-cd could be the problem, I uninstalled the Nero and reinstalled it without the in-cd.
One possible problem could be that I didn't "Clean-up" Nero when I uninstalled it. I only deleted the ahead folder that contained some files that where not removed by the uninstall.
