I ran an array of stuff (Norton, Adaware and McAfee Cleaner Lite), rebooted...and found this. Help, I'm scared (LMAO). I figure I must have scrubbed something I shouldn't have. How bad is it doc? Gawd, I hope I don't have to reformat over this. [bold]Update:[/bold] So dig this, Apparently the McAfee program determined ALL of my fonts were "junk material" so...it deleted them. Except for Fixsdys and System. WTF? You've got be kidding me. So now...the daunting task of figuring out how to tell Windows to use System until I can get all my fonts back....and THIS is why Newbies are Newbies. LMAO! Live...and learn. [bold]Update2:[/bold] Mkay, so I copied all the fonts of my GF's laptop and loaded then into the fonts file under Windows. So, I'm good until I reboot. Everything goes funky again. When I open the Fonts file, it's empty. I think I cut deeper than I thought.
Ah yes, if only I hadn't gotten into the habit a few years ago (after a nasty battle with a trojan I couldn't get rid of) of turning off Microsoft's niftly little system restore feature. (D'oh). While I agree it's rather cryptic and sci-fi'ish...it's rather difficult to navigate when ALL of my menus look the same way. (Double D'oh). I believe the problem is in the registry. That might explain why, even after copying the font files from my girlfriend's computer into my font folder, it loses them after a reboot. So, for now...I just won't restart my computer. This is not the first system to feel the newb side of the force. I am (poorly) self-taught and tortured a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion XE743 to get where I am today (which ain't far, brother) and thought I had learned better than to make really stupid mistakes (regular stupid mistakes are okay). Live...and learn.
I know Norton backs up everything. I'm pretty sure adaware has some type of back up too. Maybe you could look into that.
