    DVD Shrink would not complete dvd shrink due to errors, which lead to adding plug ins to DVD Decyrpter, which lead to an unauthorized hacking tool from a free share Pgcedit plug in. Yes I caught it so no problem there.
    DVD runs fine on both players so not sure what went on with software downloads.
    Looking for alternatives OTHER than DVD Decrypt and Shrink...maybe something that does not require the constant change of getting around Sony etc.
    Any suggestions? Is it possible to get ONE software that does back up automatically without going thru this &*^*& .
    Otherwise I give up. Hats off to all you diehards that have had success with your backups.
    I do not have nero but not opposed to it if i cuts thru the constant problems otherwise posed by outdated DVD decr.
    Thanks

    You could try AnyDvd and CloneDvd 2 because this two are awesome. AnyDVd can remove the newest copy protections and clonedvd is great for anything you need to do.

    Just like bui_jsph stated, I find that the combo programs of AnyDVD and CloneDVD meet all my backup needs, flawlessly. Well worth the cost in ease of use, useful options and, most importantly, elimination of headaches.

    Hi,

    @Ed1

    I suggest you re-rip the movie to your hard drive first then slow down your burn speed to about 4x until you get the hang of it. From the freezing and jerky pictures that is usually caused by bad media (memorex commonly referenced as crap media). I suggest purchasing some verbatims or sony (sony should say made in Japan...not Taiwan) as those 2 are carried by most local retailers. Taiyo Yuden are considered the best media for backups of YOUR PERSONALLY OWNED DVDS and meritonline is a reputable distributor. Good luck and post back if you need further assistance.

    Sorry that you are having trouble mm1234, but it's really you. I'm still using decrypter on every DVD I make and Sony hasn't been able to do anything to stop that.
    BTW, what does "which lead to adding plug ins to DVD Decyrpter, which lead to an unauthorized hacking tool from a free share Pgcedit plug in. Yes I caught it so no problem there" mean?

    I agree with matt72.

    Deffently slow the burn down to 4x.

    Get better media. I get my TY's from supermediastore.com which only cost $10 more then the cheap DVD's you get at wal-mart or bestbuy.

    Also you could try custom setting your output file to 4300MB so the burn dosent go all the way to the edge of the disc.

    I also agree with Clone DVD2 & AnyDVD. Withjout a bdoubt, the best money I ever spent when it comes to backing up movies. I'm looking forward to see how they handle to new releases tomorrow. Seems some are having trouble with The Greatest Game Ever Played & Fun With Dick & Jane. These 2 programs have never failed me yet.

    Slower burning speed (~1/2 of rated media speed) and quality media usually solve about 90% of problems......

    Most new Sony ARccOS disks cannot be ripped by either DVD shrink or DVD decrypter as both these programs are no longer supported and are therefore not updated, although you can manually create a PSL for DVD Decrypter. However, DVD FAB Decrypter will work with all the latest Sony ARccOS disks, and is still updated. The good news is DVD FAB outputs files the same way DVD decrypter does and is therefore still compatable with DVD Shrink. It is available as a free download from http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm. I hope this helps.

    Panda Antivirus caught a low threat hacking tool that came from a free share download while trying to add new features to DVD Decrypt. It was not a problem just a reminder for me not to slacken defense with freeware.

    Now for next question: I would really like to buy Clone DVD and AnyDVD at a bricks and morter store...so far have not found them at local best buy. Any suggestions?
    Yes i am stupid...but I have read where others had download problems of the ANYDVD and Clone. I am open to downloading them from the Slysoft but am wondering...can I created a disk of this software in case I have to reload and try again??
    I am also swtiching from Maxell DVD-R to TDK when the time allows.

    I'm not sure if you can get clonedvd and anydvd at a bricks and mortar store but my advice is not to switch from maxell to tdk. You should get Maxell that are made in Japan.

    @mm1234

    As stated you won't find a hard copy of AnyDVD anywhere, you must dl it from slysoft and you can make a hard copy for yourself...it is recommended.

    the AnyDVD trial lasts 21 days and anydvd automatically removes the dvd copy protection when you put the dvd into your dvd drive.
