    Hi Afterdawn friend,
My budget is 1100$, and I want to build a good computer (considering the budget). The only very important thing for me is that my computer should use Intel pro 2 duo processors, it is up to you to choose among E6300, E6400 or E6600. I have looked around the shops but I haven't been able to make my mind about the components and their compatibilities. Please help me with this. I need the following components in my computer plus a monitor:

    1) a 19" flat monitor
    2) processor: Intel pro 2 duo ( I want to overclock it later)
    3) motherboard (should accept overclocking)
    4) RAM (1024 mb or more; I saw some RAM which were hyper x. What is that?)
    5) Hard disk: 250 GB or more ( is Sata better than IDE?)
    6) video card ( I will probabely play World of Warcraft or half life)
    7) A case and a quiet PSU ( is a 350 W enough or should it be higher?)
    8) A DVD Writer

That is all I think :) . Please help me with this and advise me. I appreciate any help. Thx

It would help if you use the proper terminology bud. It's not Pro 2 Duo, it's Core 2 Duo.

Other than that, sorry I'm crap at configuring intels.

But yes, SATA is better than IDE. Much faster.

No, 350W is not enough. Especially for overclocking. I recommend a $60+ PSU at atleast 500W. NEVER get the ones that come with cases no matter what it's rated as. If it's 500W chances are it's only really 350W or less.

For good video you want an X850XT or an X1800XT. Both very well priced as of now.

If you plan on using Vista I recommend atleast 1.5-2GB of RAM.

If you install a SATA drive you will probably need a floppy drive too because Windows XP does not recognize SATA drives until you load the drivers and it only wants to do this from a floppy. Some SATA drives come with a floppy disk with the drivers already on it, others give you a cd and expect you to put it on an empty floppy, so you may need to buy a floppy disk also if you don't have one you can copy over. How to install a SATA drive using Windows XP is located all over the net by many sources so a google search I see in your future I do.

That motherboard will not work with the COre 2 Duo because it is not new enuff. Look on newegg and find those that are core 2 duo compatible. There are some that can handle core 2 duo with a bios flash, but I'm pretty sure that won't work.

Your ram should be ddr2 since that's what the new mobo's from intel use.

well, looking at newegg.com doesn't help me very much. I live in Sweden and newegg.com doesn't ship to Sweden. Can you please tell me some good budget names of motherboard, and RAM, so that I can search them on the Swedish Google? appriciate any help

For the mobo, I'd recommend the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3. It's highly rated in the overclocking forums. Fortron (FSP)makes a relatively inexpensive 450 watt power supply that should have no problems powering any single-videocard Core 2 Duo system. You really want at least an X850XT PCI-E videocard, so you won't have to upgrade too soon. You will NOT be happy with the X550 card. PQi makes decent 2x 1GB DDR2 memory sets that are pretty cheap, but if you want to overclock you'd probably be better off with with Corsair or Gskill ram.

For World of Warcraft I recommend getting way better video. X800 Atleast. Try an X800GTO. They're $89 on newegg.com. Better than a GeForce 6800 and 6600GT.

The X550 would be super bare minimum for WoW or anything else. It's equal to the Radeon 9550, which was not meant to play any new games.

But follow my guidelines and you'll have a rig that'll do everything you wan't

They really aren't any good for what you want to do.

It's X850XT or see if you can find an X1800XT or 7800GT.

what about one of these, is this in your price range?

would beat the 7600GS senseless, even with 256MB of memory. Also near silent in operation.
    Oh and also

[bold]DO NOT, AND I REPEAT DO NOT EVER EVER EVER[/bold] use a Qtec power supply. My old PC caught fire due to one of those, they are poorly made and known to fail.

    Qtecs are bad... noted...

Yeah, see if that X1800GTO is in your range. Or try to find atleast a 6600GT or a 6800.

While that 7600GS will do in a pinch I suggest something a bit higher in power.
Anything in the X800 series would work fine:

While not a powerhouse I think it would be quite affordable. And it will run World of Warcraft no problem.

Depends how much you have to spend on one, bearing in mind decent power supplies cost more than that Qtec.

Ok, very good information about the video card... thx
    But now, about the mobo...
What do you think of this one (the link below)? It seems to me quite decent, but I am maybe wrong.... can it be used for overclocking? I am not going to use water cooling... and the price of this one is good for me... If overclockable, how far?

hodab, I haven't checked much at all but aren't those parts expensive? I am just mentioning because I think that by quickly looking at those specs that that is alot of money (especially if ur paying in US money)...
