They say you can get in trouble for renting a dvd and copying it then taking it back.. and they say u can get in trouble for simply copying any copyrighted dvd movie..so my question is (if anyone knows)..Is how the heck would u get caught? other then telling on yourself. I mean is it pretty much like "dont record songs off the radio!" or "dont copy cassette tapes & cds?" Yanno what im sayin its like pretty much easy for people to be getting away with this as long as u have a dvd burner on ur comp and a program to decrypt it. just curious on peoples thoughts on this. Thanks.

I'd say that unless you are profiting from it then, yes you are safe. Say your place gets raided because you are a coke dealer. Do you think they will care about your copied DVD collection? Even if you have 1,000's if your ex rings up the MPPA and tells them, do you think they would care?

Just because you can get away with something has no bearing on whether it is right or wrong though.

Only way it would be theft though is if you returned the copy.

Dude you can beat this one into the ground all you want it is illegal. Now you say unless i do this or don't do that I won't get caught. I agree. Im sure you can walk to your street corner and buy you some crack!!! and not get caught it's the same thing no matter what, it's illegal. Beleive it or not the situation celtic_D describes, I would imagine is how most people get caught I have heard of several people getting caught with illegal DVD's but the original reason for there house getting raided was something else.

It's kinda like shoplifting ... just because you aren't getting caught doesn't make it ok ... sooner or later all thieves will have to face some kind of judgement ...

Well that kind of depends on your beliefs. I for one don't believe in any kind of after life.

You don't have to believe in an afterlife to be held accountable for your actions ...

Well with the finallity of your statement you do.

"all thieves will have to face some kind of judgement"

All theives will not have to face some kind of judgement. Steal something, tell no one, get away with it and who is going to judge you?

Errr, maybe you mean you don't have to believe because there is definatly an after life? I still say that there isn't one. Doesn't mean that I run around stealing things or pretending that my actions don't matter. Still I put copyright inringement for personal use about on the top of my list of laws I don't care about.

You never can tell ... if you're bad enough, you just may be reincarnated as a hookers panties or something nasty like that ...
