Looking for advise from those who have blazed this trail before me....

I am going to create DVD backups of the commercial VHS tapes I have. I plan on being able to play them both on my computer and also on the DVD/VCR combo (less than 2 years old) hooked to my TV. I have blank DVD+R media.

I bought a WinTV-PVR USB2. It comes with ULEAD DVD MovieFactory 2SE, and WinTV2000 that I can record the tapes from. In reading the manual, I am confused as to what format to record in, as it states to record in MPEG-1 VCD. Why wouldn't I use the DVD standard, long or Extra long settings?

Once I have this recorded to the HD, I have Windows Movie Maker and ArcSoft Video Impressions to author (Chapters and menu) with. Since they are new adn I ahven't got to play wiht them much, I am assuming they do this? Any format I need in particular to save the authored versions in?

I have Nero Express PowerDVD to burn with.

Any advice on how to make this successful for what I am doing? settings etc...

    Thanks in advance!

    Ignore the manual.
Record in mpeg-2, dvd format for your location (PAL or NTSC).
Once recorded, open the video in Ulead, and author it, then burn the finished VIDEO_TS folder to disk, using the DVD Video template in Nero.
