Now i know that dvd shrink is no longer updated what so ever and the guy went to work for nero ..which he in turn created nero recode...but if this being the case why do a lot of people still use dvd shrink if recode is like the updated version of dvd shrink...i've been using shrink for a while but i'd like to hear some feedback...thanks.
That's their choice of preference, I guess. I don't know about you other others, but I prefer Nero Recode 2 over DVD Shrink. I've been using DVD Shrink in the past (maybe once in a while when I get bored/tired of Nero Recode 2) and I must say that Nero Recode 2 is 2 - 3 times faster than DVD Shrink. However, the choice is yours.
The major difference is that DVD Shrink can still rip over 98% of movies available - Recode cannot rip movies - you need to use some third party ripper such a DVD Decrypter before you can use recode. For the greater majority of movies Shink is a one/two click solution - rips and compresses. I use it all the time even though I have Recode which I find more complicated (probably cause I've only tried it once or twice)
Except for the ripping part, Recode is definitely a very nice program to have. I prefer it over Shrink myself.
dont get me wrong shrink is a very good program, but recode is really excellent with converted avi files from divx to dvd , where as shrink seems to be slow.
Yes... it is true that Nero Recode 2 will not encode any dvd that has encrypted protections or bad protected sectors from Macrovision and Sony's ARccOS. However, DVD Decrypter (free - can still decrypt nearly 99.99%), DVDFab Decrypter (free - and will crack/decrypt 100%) and lastly DVD43 (free - and will crack nearly 95% - 99%) -- or AnyDVD (retail - will crack/decrypt 100%). Again, don't get me wrong, DVD Shrink is a fine program, but I'm with "scf_au" and "andmerr" and I prefer Nero Recode 2. Nero Recode is definitely 2 or 3 times faster than DVD Shrink and its encoding engine is awesome. However, we're all entitled to our own choice of preference, so use whatever that works best for you.
to answer the question. shrink is free, recode is $$$. yes recode is faster, but the quality is the same, at this point. by the way. recode and shrink are both rippers(copy of files from disc to HD). what recode doesn't do is, to decrypt. they are not encoders either. they are trasncoders. i have them both but i only use shrink because it is smaller(easy on HD and memory)
I'm not pulling anything, but here's what I found out. Nero Recode 2 is not free, but it's free....whenever you buy any new dvd burner from Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. (Nero usually comes with most dvd burners). Hmmm....... let see this picture below, it was taken from Nero Recode 2 "Analyzing and Encoding". It stated clearly that it's Encoding. Cheers now...
let see, where do i beguin? 1)why don't you post the link to download the FREE nero recode2, and i mean free, without having to buy a burner. Recode2 is a great program, i'm sure that those who don't have it would love to get it, since it is free. so please MR alkohol give us the link. 2)i know that recode2 says that it is encoding, but in true, it is trasncoding. this very website has what is call "Glossary", there you will see the difference between an encoder and a transcoder. shrink, recode2, dvdclone2,dvd2one,intervideo,1clickdvd and others are transcoders. CCE, HC,procoder quenc and others are encoders. 3)again. ripping=copying files from disc to HD, decrypting= breaking encryptions(codes). shrink and recode2 are both rippers, out of the two, shrink is both a ripper and a decrypter.
Hmmmm... I never said Nero Recode is free. I said; "Nero Recode 2 is not free, but it's free....whenever you buy any new dvd burner from Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. (Nero usually comes with most dvd burners)." Alkohol scratching his head... I know for a fact that CCE and Hanks are probably 2 of the greatest Encoders out there -- but specifically to say that Nero Recode 2 "does not" performed its "encoding" process or it does not "encode", and or it doesn't have an "encoding" engine at all isn't right either. I'm here to learn and listen, so please feel free to "educate" me anytime alright. However, I can safely say that CCE and Hanks does have a better "encoding" engine than both Nero Recode 2 and DVD Shrink, meaning it will definitely produces outstanding quality pictures in result. I guess here is what Afterdawn's Glossary said about "Encode". Encode Full description not available yet. Encoding is opposite of decoding. Encoding means that a file, whether it is an audio, video or picture file, is compressed to another format that normally takes up less physical drive space than the previous format. Common video encoding methods are DivX, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 -- most common audio encoding method or format is MP3. Nero Recode 2 is "not" a ripper/ripping program/application whatsoever period. On the other hand, DVD Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter are true rippers. To say that DVD Shrink is both a "ripper & decrypter" can be a tough call or inevitable. Some may argue that DVD Shrink "can not" handle Sony's ARccOS and MacroVision's RipGuard protections, and I fully agree to that statement, and or comment. However, I completely agree that DVD Shrink can bypass/crack most of the CSS and older protections easily to certain degree. In contrast, we're all entitled to our own choice of preferences, so use whatever that floats in your boat. Cheers now.
qoute"Hmmmm... I never said Nero Recode is free. I said; "Nero Recode 2 is not free, but it's free....whenever you buy any new dvd burner from Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. (Nero usually comes with most dvd burners)." ops.you are right on this one. recode2 has a trasnscoding engine, not a encoding one. recode2, shrink and the other alike are, in fact, rippers(if one follows the definition of what a ripper is) quote"To say that DVD Shrink is both a "ripper & decrypter" can be a tough call or inevitable. Some may argue that DVD Shrink "can not" handle Sony's ARccOS and MacroVision's RipGuard protections, and I fully agree to that statement, and or comment. However, I completely agree that DVD Shrink can bypass/crack most of the CSS and older protections easily to certain degree." decrypter can't handle RipGard, would you say that decrypter is not a ripper because of this fact?
Guess we all have our favorites. Recode or Shrink, I just love it when I can copy my favorite dvds. *_*
