ok heres the story. the computer that im usin now is the newest one i got, its an hp n it got windows xp its nice n fast.. but my problem is my old computer, the reason y i bought The computer im now usin is becuz my old computer.. a compaq (i had installed windows xp on it..it use to work great)cuz c the compaq started freezin after a while due to too many programs n games i had installed n it completely got ruined..it brought a compaq recovery cd which i use to use on it when it started gettin slow n it would always bring it back to windows ME n i'd re-install xp on it everytime.. but c the problem is that this time when i put in the cd it didnt wanna read it, an error occurd n it wouldnt take the cd.. n the pc wouldnt even gimme the windows xp log on screen on startup, only a black screen with some error on it... so wat i did was, used my current pc to format the hard drive of my old computer, so now its formated.. then i made the windows xp floppy boots (when i use to try usin these b4 formattin the hdd itll read it but then when it would try to format the hdd itll get an error n freeze) but yeah the problem is that its hdd is formatted i got the 6 windows xp floppy boots but now when i put it in the floppy drive, it wont read em, doesnt boot.. so i tried pressin f10 f11 n f12 n then s blue screen came up, but its not like the one on now n day computers...i cant select my floppy as the first boot nor the second, it only has:
    boot order
    first---- cd-rom
    second---hard drive
n i can only change from hdd to cd-rom...floppy aint an option although it should still boot from it cuz it use too..
but i need help asap, c the reason y im tryin to use this computer is cuz my uncle wants to buy it from me, he said to fix it n he'll buy it, he lives at my house n he wants a computer in his room just to check email, chat on the messenger n listen to music.. but i cant fix it... it also doesnt read any cd's i insert in it.. n when it starts up all it does is say compaq n then the screen just stays black...doesnt read the windows xp cd, doenst read the widows xp floppy boots either..anybody know wat to do?

well one thing that i left off is that the compaq wont read any cd right now expect for the compaq recovery cd. but when i put it in, its jut shows this:

    starting windows 98...

Mifcrosoft RAMdrive 3.06 virtual disk C:
    Disk Size: 3,072K
    Sector Size: 512Bytes
    Allocation Unit: 2 Sectors
    Directory Entries: 64

ATAPI IDE CR-ROM device driver version V 1.23A
    1 drive(s) detected

    Unit 1, MASTER, IRQ 15, I/O Address 0X0170

Mode prepare code page function completed

Mode prepare code page function completed
    MSCDEX version 2.25
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corp. 1986-1995. All rights reserved.
Drive N: Driver IDE CD 001 Unit 0
    A:\>_

see.. n then i try writin different comannds like run, setup, install, n nuttin... nuttin works.. so it cant read cd's except for this one which is no use.. n it cant read floppy disks as well...
but c b4 i had formated the HDD it use to display sumthin similar to that for like 5 seconds n then it use to run a setup that use to bring my computer back to Windows ME, the thing is that after my computer messed up it wouldnt read the cd at all, i use to get sumthing like this erytime i turn on my computer:

    NTSFD....sumthin sumthin sumthin..

    so idk...
wat do yall think i can do to get this computer running?

I'd think that's unlikely. If it's a problem that started ater you reformatted, then it's something to do with the reformat. If you only have an A, C and D normally (i.e. Floppy, hard disk, CD) then try typing E: at that dos prompt and going setup. In the computers I've used, DOS creates a virtual disk in the RAM allocated 2MB of room, which it copies the XP startup exe into.
Alternatively, try going into the BIOS and changing the boot order (I think that's in something like advanced CMOS features). Then put the CD-ROM drive first. The PC should then start the XP setup. If it doesn't, tell us what it does say at that point.
