I downloaded a virus a little while ago and decided to just go ahead and reboot my computer. well after I rebooted it with my windows xp disc it has been unable to connect to the internet and also it will not recognize my printer. i'm using xp service pack 2 I believe. I bought the disc in like 2002 so it does have a lot of scratches on it. does anybody know why its doing this and how to fix it?

I can't find the box for my motherboard but the disc that came with it says intel 848/865/875 series. I tried to reinstall the lan drivers but it says it is already installed and working properly. when I try to upload the printer driver it only picks up the scanner but not the printer and its an all in one lexmak 5000 series. any clue on what can be causing this?

i'm not too much worried about the printer, its the internet thats getting on my nerves lol. its weird because I can hook up my linksys usb network adapter and the internet will work fine but when I hook the computer up directly to the modem via ethernet or usb connection it will not work. when I check the connection it will say that my computer is sending out packets to the internet but not recieving any in return. I triple checked that the drivers were installed correctly and they are, but it will not connect to the internet. man this is getting frustrating lol. does anyone know what can cause this?

when connected thru the linksys usb network adapter, at the command prompt, do an ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew with either ethernet cable or usb cable.
