I am looking to spend between $400-$500 on a dvd recorder and need some help. I am looking for a recorder that has a hard drive and has a tv schedule like Tivo. I am also looking for a recorder that records something similar like VCR+.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

    Irish,
I've got a Panasonic DMR E85H, although we are currently (In another thread) trying to figure out a TV Guide problem, I am very happy with the unit itself, it does everything you're asking for. Depending on speed, the HD can handle from 26 to about 200 hours recording, it accepts VCR+ codes, has a menu driven tvguide system that lets you point and shoot to record (find the program in the table of listings, and click record, and it sets the timer for you, along with naming the recording for the show. Other than the problem we are researching, I'd give it a 9 out of 10, the missing 1 is due to only using DVD-R or DVD ram, and no option to upgrade the size of the HD, (replacing the existing drive (120GB) with a larger (300GB) the firmware formats it as a 120GB. (strange quirk in the firmware)

Irish27... I went a different route, but to answer your quiry and questions buy or borrow thw November 2005 Consumer Reports starting on page 38 should give you a fair answer. It does rate 10 different DVD/VCR recorders that is in the general area you asked about. CIAO.
