I have a (small) library of blu-rays, and a bunch of dvd actually, all on my HDD that i want to convert to mkv. i've pretty much got the process down, except that when i merge the a/v files using mkvmerge, it seems hit or miss, usually miss, as to whether the audio will sync up right. i believe it's when i've converted the audio that this happens. i'm primarily using x264 and flac. i tried making a 30min clip of a movie, so that i could toy with the timing settings, and hopefully get it right. the clip i made though synced up perfectly with no adjustment. when i did this same thing with full movie "transformers", the audio is all off again. I'm not sure how to use the stretch function, but the problem does seem to worsen the longer into the video i get. I'm also using eac3to with 'gui and more' to extract streams, and convert audio. the mkvmerge gui for that program doesn't actually have the timing adjustments. I had set up a nice set of batch commands to strip out audio and video, convert audio, then merge, but they came out awful, sync wise.

First of all I don't know how to use this setting in general, except that it's a ratio. what are some starting points?

Also is there a better way besides trial and error to determine how to adjust these settings, delay, and stretch?

    Thanks!

Is Transformers a Blu-Ray .m2ts and are you converting to x264 first or are you just extracting the uncompressed movie and putting it into .mkv container?

i'm using a blu-ray ripped iso which already has extra streams removed. movie was already in avc/h264, but ran through eac3to gui & more anyway, converted sound to flac, then used mkv merge. i also tried to demux with tsmuxer, convert audio to flac, then use mkvmerge.

i experimented with different types of audio files and making mkv's w/ mkvmerge, interestingly enough i tried using the ripped h264 file from tsmuxer then using that with mkv merge and actually got better results. the sound was still off and got progressively worse, but was relatively better, not so far off. i've tried this process with other discs too, so know that it's not just transformers. i wish i could get true-hd to work on wmp, i could then just make .m2ts files with one pass of tsmuxer, i can actually do that and downconvert to ac3 640 at the same time, of course (that's what i'm going to do in the meantime), but i want higher quality/ lossless audio tracks, it's HD video, so might as well not skimp on the audio, it sounds so much better.

    thanks

    Try this:

Download the latest version of MKVToolNix.

Add the video to Eac3to. Also make sure that the MKVMerge path is set. Go to "Eac3to Video" tab. There open up the file and save the video as mkv don't do anything to it just save it as mkv.

Your basically using Eac3to to convert the video to mkv.

Convert the audio track to to AC3 or use one provided with the movie (transformers should have 640kbps AC3 with it as well as THD audio)which you can extract with tsMuxeR.

After you have you movie.mkv and audio.ac3/dts/somethingelse open us mkvmergeGUI and add first your movie then you audio track and mux them together. You should have a working movie now with correct audio.

That same problem happened to me once where I first demuxed the movie with tsMuxeR then tried to mux the audio and elementary H264 stream with MKVMerge and the audio turned out to be off by a lot. I then tried using eac3to to mux the movie into mkv then added the movie.mkv and audio to mkvmerge then muxed the whole think to mkv. I have been doing it this way ever since.

i tried taking the demuxed x264 stream, putting it through eac3to, and making an mkv vid only with it. both times though it cut out before it was done processing, leaving me with a file that was about 10 gigs short. not sure why it is doing that....
