i need help with my 4g ipod

my sisters friend gave me this old 4g ipod that wouldnt work. i forced it into disk mode and fully charged it, so the battery works. when the ipod is not plugged in to my pc, ill turn it on and it will go to the apple logo for a while, then it goes to that picture with a folder and a "!". then it turns off. when i plug it into my pc firts it shows the logo, then that folder with a "!", and then goes to the "do not disconnect" thing. my computer makes that "boopboop" noise, showing that it recognizes a usb device. the ipod wont show up in my computer or itunes. if i go to device manager though and look at the usb ports, it shows "usb mass storage device". i click on that and it says (iPod). so my computer sees the ipod but it wont show it in my computer or itunes, so i cant restore it to factory settings. any ideas? thanks.


edit: alright now if i wait long enough, it show up under my computer, not as ipod, but as removable storage. then it finally showed up in itunes and said it was corrupted and needed to be restored. i tried to restore and it went through restoring but then it said it could not be restored because of an error.
