I have been using AnyDVD or shrink w/AnyDVD to copy. Sometimes I use VobBlank to remove unwanted things in the movie. Than use Shrink to shrink the movie. Next, Nero to copy the movie to a DVD. This has been working for me over three years now. Could someone give me suggestions what they think will do a better job in my process. I hear about other software like DVDfab, FreeDvD, ImgBurn. Could you explain to me what you use them for? Ex, I use DVD Shrink because it's simple to use and it works great with AnyDVD. Is there a faster, or a better quality compression software? Only thing I could suggest is to burn with ImgBurn over Nero. Superior, in my opinion, and easy to use. As far as I know, AnyDVD and DVD Fab serve pretty much the same purpose with breaking encryption and ripping with the nod going to AnyDVD, think AnyDVD also processes with FixVTS, not familiar with FreeDVD.
Shrink by itself is the best. Just make sure if any compression is needed you have deep analysis ticked and also have "compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation" ticked and on smooth (or maximum smoothness if it needs more than 75% compression). Obviously not all new movies will open with shrink, so I use DVDFab to rip the entire disc (I found this easiest), then shrink to extract what I want, which is usually just the movie.
Dvd shrink is very good to use at compressing the files to fit onto a dvd-5 disk. Another good one to use, tho it takes a bit longer to run, is dvd rebuilder. For burning, I only use imgburn.
Thanks for the information. I started reading the how to burn guide on the imgBurn. I use the dvd+r, because the DVD player in my truck can only read that disk. My DVD burner is the Sony DW-Q30A, I've had it about 5yr now. I have A LITE-ON burner sitting on my shelf for about 1 1/2 years, don't know if that burner is any better than the Sony. I bought that when I thought my Sony went bad. The book type setup doesn't show the Sony setting, and I don't know who made the burner for Sony. Will this make a difference since I do use the Booktype setup? Reading up on DVD rebuilder, does it really take a hour or two to compress? I believe Dvdshrink takes 15-25min.
Dvd rebuilder does take alot longer than dvd shrink. A few consider the quality of picture after using dvd rebuilder better than dvd shrink. You can do a movie with dvd rebuilder and see if the quality comes out better than shrink. It all depends on how it looks to you if you want to use rebuilder instead of shrink.

for time expediency, best to use dvd rebuilder on a dual core or even quad core processor machine. on a single core P4, rebuilder may take upwards of 5 hours
