I need to create a "Video Out"

Hello All! I suppose the displays forum would be more appropriate for my question but I've got knowledgable buddies here so I thought I'd post here all the same.

I bought my first HDTV a couple of years ago; a Sony KDF-42WE655 which is awesome. My only regret is that I should have bought a larger display and, as is my problem, it has no "video out". As I never record on my VCR anymore, I didn't realize this for quite some time after buying the TV nor did it ever occur to me to look when I bought the TV...all TVs had a video out...my old TVs always had a video out allowing me to record whatever was displayed. I've since discovered that they call this more recent trend "closing the analog hole"....well, I want my hole back LOL!

Any thoughts on the best way to accomplish this? I don't like the idea of have to interrupt a signal between its source and the TV. I thought of one way ... I have all my units connected directly to the TV rather than my AVR ... I use the "monitor" output on my AVR strictly to see the AVR'd menus. Perhaps I could connect the composite or S-Video outputs of the individual units to the AVR and put the amps monitor out to a selector switch sending the signal to either the TV when I need to read menus or to a DVD recorder.

Does anyone have any thought/suggestions on this subject? Are all TVs like this now or is this just another of Sony's recent tyranies? Thanks in advance for input and advice; thanks guys!

    Hey gerry.....wassup?
How do you get your HD programming? OTA? No cable box, or sat receiver?

Hi JVC! How are you buddy? I hoped you'd be lurking about here somewhere LOL! I have the rediculously overpriced Comcast Cable HD box!

With the cable HD box, you're using HDMI, DVI, or component cables, right? Doesn't the box have other outputs too, that you could run to a dvd recorder? Or does only one output work at a time? Example: HDMI over rides the composite outputs, so they don't work at same time as HDMI.... If that's the case, and you can't use the other outputs, I'm not sure what else to tell you. What you said above may be worth a try.

I know that the composite outputs is all you need to use, to go to a dvd recorder, because they record only in stereo.

I didn't think going through the AVR would interrupt the signal. I thought it was just a pass through, with no interference, unless you had a ground problem, or something like that.

Since I don't have an HDTV yet, I've not had to contend with these type things much, so I'm just trying to work it out in my head. Hope you get it figured out soon!

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. My friend has been wanting to go fishing, but I need work done on my boat's motor. Since I've been unemployed since April, and my unemployment ran out, plus I've applied for disability, and it takes 3-5 months to hear from them.............. I've had no money, to get the motor work done. My friend said that if I'd help him build a dog kennel, for keeping up to 10 big dogs, he'd pay for the motor to be fixed. Needless to say, I'm helping him!)

Good luck with your problem. Let us know how it goes.......

Hi JVC! I'll take a look over the weekend but I think it has only one additional input into the cable box but I think that the video outputs will work independently. I remember that when I first bought it, I though I had to connect both the HDMI for high def as well as the RCA or S-Video for analog but there was no pic for anything HD which is only logical. I'll double check on the weekend. Thanks guy!

Howdy Boss! I was my project for the weekend (I really need to get a different hobby, this moving around TVs, speakers and audio equipment is tough on the bones LOL!)Alas, I've got company for the weekend so my project will have to wait a bit. I actually have a number of options: I spoke of my AVR but I don't really want to uank that sucker out and connect/disconnect things...my back has to be in a good mood indeed to start that. You mentioned my Cable box and it does have an input for just one other a/v device. I could indeed use that with some sort of device like the following to connect more. This would give me the option I'm looking for to simply record whatever is playing on the screen.

Now, I have this other really awesome device and I can't even begin to describe how well this little sucker works. I've used it many times in the past connected between a TV's analog hole and a VCR but I know for fact it works just as well with a DVD recorder even though its older that the DVD recorder itself.

Before I got a really good computer a couple of years ago as well as the appropriate software, I had to way to make copies of my DVDs so I made VHS copies of my DVDs with this little sucker connected between the TVs video out and the video in on the VCR. Here is the weird part that I just plain don't understand: the copy was almost as good as the DVD it came from but far far better than any VHS you'll ever see. I know it makes no sense, but there it is all the same. I'm going to try it with a DVD recorder and, if it works as well as with the VCR, it will be ten times easier than making backups on my computer.

So, to answer your question, I don't exactly know how I'm going to go about this but I've got several ideas. I'll let you know how I make out with it. I've decided that I'm going to take thanksgiving week out lbut I'm not going anywhere so I'll do some imporvemnt stuff at the house and buy a few "HUngry Man Turkey Dinners LOL! I hope you feeling well?? ....Gerry
