I apologise if this has not been posted in the correct place

newbie here although I lurk often. I admit I really am not good with computers so please be gentle with me as alot of the technical talk goes straight over my head

I have read so many thr forum's but cant seem to find something that will help me out - I might not have searched well so please redirect me if you can.

As I said, I am not very computer literate so I cant really give many technical details but if you need information please let me know and I will attempt to get it.

Dell Laptop running Windows XP (service pack 2 enabled)
LG External Super Multi DVD ReWriter (model no GSA-2164D)

I run DVD Decrypter then DVD Shrink and burn through Decrypter

I have been backing up my DVD's for a couple of years with few problems but over the past few months every time I try and back something up I get the following error through DVD Decrypter

I have been using the same disks for a long time (not sure what they were sorry) but when I first got this error I went and bought other disks (sony) and I think i was able to successfully back up one DVD before I got the error again. It happens every single time.

What is the likely cause of this issue? hardware? software?

Please let me know if I need to supply more information and remember, I really am not computer literate so no doubt I havent given you enough information.

Any input would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me slowly insane.

    Danielle

both these programs are old and not updated anymore..... so DVDDecrypter will have a hard time copying the DVD to the hard drive. I suggest you use DVDFab HD Decrypter found here:
    http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
it's free and updated often enough to do the newer DVDs.

Once on the hard drive use Shrink to compress and then burn with ImgBurn, it's also free and from the maker of DVDDecrypter:

thankyou for your quick response. I am downloading those programs now and will give them a go.

Are they easy to use? It took me so long to work out how to use the other programs

thankyou so much. I successfully managed to backup one DVD so far.

I have no idea what I did exactly, just sort of guessed my way through so hopefully I can do the same when I try the next one.

I did find there was no sound on my computer but sound was fine on the TV.

Thankyou again! I hope its okay to come back if I have further issues with these programs.

    thanks again.

Unfortunatly i havent been able to back up another dvd after that first one. I have started getting a similar error message. Not sure what is going on.
I must be doing something wrong. I read all the guides & tutorials but often I still cant work it all out as the computer language is hard for me to understand. I will have to do a bit more research I guess?

    Hi,

unfortunately I am still having the same issues. As I mentioned, I was able to successfully backup 1 DVD with the programs you suggested but have not been able to do anymore.

It's the burning that I have issues with as I am able to use the other programs successfully but its when it comes to the burning that I have the error messages.

I have installed all the programs & burners onto another computer this evening but am getting the same error.

The main error I am still getting is the one originally mentioned
    )

but I also did get this error message as well although I can not remember with which program it occured (although it was at burning stage)

    I am going quietly insane
