Is that the AO71 or the AO7I? I/O magic 16x are made by many different manufacturers. My first one was made by benq-1620. The second one I bought in february, was an EMPA-MIDDLE EAST FZCO.It has book-typing capabilities and 4x dual-layer speed. This firmware,If AO7I may be an EMPA Drw1016IM. My pc recognized it as an IDE 16x DD or something like that. I went here to update it from A07F to the AO7R: http://www.drvupdate.com/ If you still have the original box and papers from it,it will have a green paper with that website. Mine's still sitting in the box. If this is actually your I/O 16x,then it has an easy auto update program. I had to update mine to be able to use maxell -4x yellowtops that had the mfg code of Ritek-g04 about a week after I bought it. The compatability of this burner was very poor on my stand alones,so I removed it for another benq 1620. It liked the dash format.Even after book-typing the dvd+r media to dvd-rom,I only had about 50% compatability on my 2 pcs,1 home burner, and 2 stand alones. That 2nd benq took care of that issue. Hope this helps you out bigdave76.

ok i checked the log file heres what it says 04/12/05 19:30:03] Updating drive Model DVDRW-IDE 16X from Ver. A071 to Ver. A082. [03/07/05 20:37:13] Updating drive Model DVDRW-USB 16X from Ver. A079 to Ver. A07R
I upgraded the firmware from A07F to A082 on my idvd16dd (dual layer) and after the reboot, the drive shows up as a CD drive instead of a DVD-RW. Have I just fried my I/O Magic? Thanks!
hi, just hit the start button go into control panel find system then open hardware go to device manager find dvd cd rom drives click on the + sign it should tell ya dvd rw 16x
Bigdave76, Thanks for your note. In my case, yes, I did replace a CD-RW with the I/O magic DVD+-RW. I find that when I put a blank DVD+ or -R into the I/O magic, Windows explorer says it is a CD-RW, but is still able to burn it as a DVD when I use Nero OEM. If the drive is empty, it will correctly show DVD-RW. Funky. Any idea how I can make dual layer DVD+Rs DVD-ROM compatible using a bitsetter program. All programs I've tried on this drive seem to fail. Thanks, again!
