Hey all, thanks for being here and offering assistance to guys like me. Here's what's going on. A few years back I bought myself a brand new "hp dvd writer dvd420e", and for years everything's been groovy. But recently (a few months ago) I bought a 50 pack of cheap Memorex DVD-R's. Now, I'd never had any problems with Memorex and I'd burned hundreds of them using this very burner. But this 50 pack I bought didn't get along with my computer for some reason. I thought maybe I just bought a bad batch and I set them aside for later review. Now, I believe it's my old firmware to blame. I could be wrong though. Here's what Nero says when I try to burn with these discs: (this is the end part of the log file) 12:41:47 AM #23 SPTI -1046 File SCSIPassThrough.cpp, Line 291 G: CdRom4: SCSIStatus(x02) WinError(0) NeroError(-1046) Sense Key: 0x02 (KEY_NOT_READY) Sense Code: 0x30 Sense Qual: 0x11 CDB Data: 0x53 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 60 00 00 00 Sense Area: 0x70 00 02 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 30 11 12:41:47 AM #24 CDR -1046 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1805 Illegal disc G: HP DVD Writer 420n 12:41:47 AM #25 TRANSFER -27 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1805 Could not perform start of Disc-at-once 12:41:47 AM #26 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1730 Burn process failed at 2.4x (3,324 KB/s) When I built this computer I had lost my installation disc and I've been running this drive on just the plug and play drivers I think. Now I need to update the firmware, so I went to HP's website and downloaded the new firmware, but it was just an update and it said I needed to install from the original discs (which I can't find). The kicker is that HP doesn't allow you to download the original drivers. You have to order replacement discs, which is complete crap and horrible customer service. Is there anything I can do without having to re-order discs that I already paid for years ago? For example, would anyone know anywhere I might be able to download the original firmware for this drive? I've looked around the web all night but I've found nothing and this is getting really frustrating. Thanks for reading this and thanks for any consideration of help.
I'm not familiar with the way (exactly) that HP drives flash, so can't help you with any work-arounds of sort. All I can suggest is to try and find the drivers on a download site and then see if you can use them as is, or burn them to a CD.
