Well I'm not sure but I think my dvd writer has gave up on me. I havent had any problems with it til today and now it will not even recognize any dvd format. It does still recognize cds. I have tried uninstalling the drive, updating drivers, virus and malware scans, and thought about uninstalling nero 6 but I also have dvdfab, imgburn, 1click which does not recognize any dvd media. I have not installed anything new in a while that could cause conflicts. So I came here for expert advice, I am all out of ideas. I do have an old writer that has burned well over 1000 discs. Its a hp 300c burner, with windows xp sp3. Any help besides ordering a new one is greatly appreciated.

Can you borrow an internal or even an external USB burner to check that your programs are working correctly-sounds like you just need a new cheap DVD from newegg.com if in US. Usually >$30 with free shipping.
