I love nero7 and dont want to uninstall it again so there has to be another solution. Every time I install nero7 burning rom I cant seem to play my .avi files. I've tried Windows Media Player (default player), real player, media player classic, and VideoLan, nothing will play them. When I take Nero7 away I can play the .avi files again. I've tried a few things one being changing the default player to each of the different programs... and still nothing. The files will come up saying they are playing, but no sound or picture and the seek bar isnt moving. If anyone could help it would be great because I dont want to keep uninstalling/reinstalling. Thanx in advance
Well, I don't know what could be causing this. Did you try changing the File Association" setting? This is something that you can set if you do a custom Nero installation. You can also go into your folder options menu and do this. Control Panel, Classic view. Folder Options. File Types tab. Wait for the Registered File Types to load. Scroll down to AVI and highlight by clicking it. See if you have it set to open with Nero when you have Nero installed. Otherwise set it to Windows Media Player. Thats all I can think of. Hopefully someone who knows more about this will add more.
A couple of more wild guesses. I wish I had a good answer for you ....If you do get it to work please let us know! First is your installed ASPI. I think you should see if you have Nero's WinASPI installed. You can get it here: http://nero.com/nero6/enu/WNASPI32.DLL.html Second is your DirectX, just make sure you have the latest version. (which you probably do.) To determine which version of Direct X you are running: 1. On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Run dialog box, type dxdiag 3. Click OK. A dialog box displays the version that you are running. You can also run a bunch of other tests. Here are some links I found about this as well: http://help.lockergnome.com/lofiversion/index.php/t44021.html http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/Nero-Mega-Plugin-Pack.shtml http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=155836 Scary Nero 7 reviews: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000BCGFCO/102-8579141-6333723?v=glance I think at some point you should consider using Nero 6. I installed Nero 7 and have had absolutely no problems. I did not install Nero Scout or Nero Home. These are a big waste of disc space....Possibly the cause of your problem??...Hmmmm, Try the Nero 7 install without Nero Home or Nero Scout. Choose the custom installation. Maybe those are "stealing" your .avis. Also, with the custom install, you can choose which files to associate with Nero. I would severely limit what files actually open with Nero programs. You can open them manually if you want to use a Nero program. While you are at it, run the Nero Clean tool to remove the previous installation files and fragments: http://nero.com/nero6/enu/Utilities.html Well thats all I can think of. Let me know if anything works for you. Cheers, Frank
Ok, Thanx fasfrank but unfortunately none of those ideas worked, but after a week of research I fixed the problem... I checked the properties on all the .avi files and they all said Audio-Nero Digital Audio... so I did a search on google and came up with this forum - http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t28884.html I saw listed my same problem, I scrooled down to - "quote" EDIT: Ok, here is what I did: I installed AC3Filter 1.01a RC5, configured it to process PCM, AC3, DTS, MPEG Audio, PES (DVD), but set it to prefer other codecs. Then I unregistered Nero Digital Audio Decoder with regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\neaudio.ax". This way non-functional Nero codec is not used at all (it should be like that by default with non-full Nero licenses!), and AC3Filter is used only if other codecs fail to process the data. So, AC3 in movies from DVDs & MPEGs is processed by PowerDVD codecs, and AC3 from AVIs is processed by AC3Filter. Looks like PowerDVD codecs can't cope AVI. "unquote" and I treid it.. Start/run/regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\neaudio.ax well it worked, I can now play my .AVIs. Thank goodness! If anyone else has this problem try this out! Thanx for your help fasfrank
I wonder if this would have been avoided with a custom Nero installation like Frank said, where you choose what types of vidoe/audio/img files to be associated with Nero and which not. I never encountered that problem.
No it didnt change a thing. I tried changing the file association and also did a custon instal... I even tried only installin Nero Vision and nothing else. For some reason not sure why, I dont really understand it but that forum ( http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t28884.html ) I read really helped, and I just did what it said. ( Start/run/ (diagbox-> regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\neaudio.ax ) Anyway all is great now, no problems at all
I'm glad you got it fixed. I'll have to visit the website. To be honest I've never had a problem with codecs so I don't know much about them. That was good of you to come back and share the solution with everyone. It is much appreciated!! I hope to see you around! Cheers, Frank
