Wow this thread has gone downhill.

Back on the original topic, if you want to pay 500-600 dollars for a ps3, then get a ps3. If you don't, than there are cheaper options available.
If you think the average consumer will fork out that kind of money, than you have good faith in Sony, but ultimately time will tell wether or not the pricing was worth it.

that must be nice living close to a border of another country, living in the uk makes you feel like your imprisoned b/c your sourounded by water, especially considering the fact that i have a problem with flying, ahh no way out. lol.

    anyways back to topic.

"Well I'd have to say one advantage of being in the UK/Australia etc is we get our hardware and software later on (a negative in that sense) but this usually results in problems being rectified - for example i remember Star Ocean on PS2 had serious glitches in the Japanese version, and there were some overheating issues with the Xbox 360 when released in the US (was it the US?). It's not all that bad navi95 :)

On that note, given the price tag on the PS3, you can't tell me if you were prepared to buy a decent piece of hardware like that (at such an exorbitant price tag as well) that you wouldn't go for the better model anyway - everyone loves a bigger HD!! I know I would anyway.

I think that Sony have wronged in two ways - their high price tag will eliminate a small percentage of buyers (most die hards will by a PS3 anyway, but parents who are buying for their kiddies might opt for a cheaper alternative next christmas season) meaning they may lose some of their lead in market share to Microsoft.

The other mistake I think is they've released their console after one of their competitors (MS) have - the Psone and PS2's success was helped by being the first console released in each of their generations.

Despite that the PS3 will still be a success, but i think the Wildcard is Wii which could either bomb or rocket to success (i hope we don't have another Sega on our hands!)."

ACtually Sony has always been second releasing their systems...Saturn came before PS1 and Dreamcast came before PS2.

how can you say sony is shooting themselves in the foot when microsoft is releasing the HORRIBLE windows VISTA next year.
I'm betatesting one of the final releases and let me tell you, buy linux because no matter how fast your pc is its slow
Were testing it with 3.7 ghz intel extremes with 2gb of ddr2 ram, 350gb hdd's loaded
IT IS SO DAMN SLOW, ITS UNBELEIVABLE!!!!!!!!!
    A GAMERS WORST NIGHTMAre!!
when windows vista s released we will see who really shot themselves in the foot.

Lol yall.I'm from the south so I guess i'm stupid.Anytime someone says someone from a different place is stupid that should basically mean they are stupid. To count an entire part of the world that has millions of people as stupid is just stupid.(But yall were just kidding lol and so am I).

kainx: It's to bad more people don't see that vista is just xp in another shell{;/ I know about directx 10, but ms will not make it backwards compatible which makes ALL no matter where you live upgrade to thier bull$&it just to get their game benefits.

vista is nothing of xp. it was completely redone by stripping the gui out of mac osx tiger and slapping on a new one, while also re-writing the coding for compatability with the pc world like dx10 and all that. vista can play dx9 games but no farther. like how mac osx can play os9 games and before and how os9 couldnt play os8 games. its because of all the changes to the system that to allow the backwards compatability you want would sacrifice security. i hope u have to enter a password for everything u install or vista will have virus problems. osx has 0 viruses, they find the holes discovered and patch them in days when there are some.

Not really. It wasn't completely redone despite what ms might tell you.It has been added to since ms-dos ,so how can you say that? You say "by stripping the gui " what?

"vista can play dx9 games but no farther." Yeah your right (sorta) but I meant forwards compatibility...sorry..For instance directx 10 games won't be playable on win xp.Only on vista.

Vista was "completely redone" in the sense that the original longhorn os was completely scrapped and MS had to start over with a different approach, thus windows vista.
The majority of the delays with vista have to do with compatibility issues. MS didn't want to alienate all other windows users with the release of Vista, which is why it's more complicated than it would be to just make a brand new Windows OS.

By the way Vista is a really stupid name (sounds like something from the 80's) as was longhorn lol. Are you guys basically saying that we'll have to upgrade to this new [bold]slow[/bold] mac rehash operating system to run DirectX 10? Damn! lol Not that i have a graphics card up to the task... Does that mean that all games requiring DX10 will also be incompatible with XP? Because that basically forces us to change to play new games!!

Directx 10 will be released on windows vista only last I checked. But I heard that ms will make some kind of emulator for previous releases. So it's not really the games that won't run it's just the new technologies found in directx 10 won't be there and therefore games developed for directx10 will be....incompatible?

I think Nintendo Wii will sell more than the ps3, the Wii actually has something new to offer.
