I won't buy any Memorex DVD's after I burn these Ritek ones.

I bought thirty 25 packs of Memorex Cool Colors CDR's that were made by Prodisc for $1.99 each at a Blockbuster Video a few months back. I burn them as audiodiscs at 16x & they play back fine...

    @phatjiggy

In answer to the which is better, plus or dash format, here is an interesting article for you....

    http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/113

I have always had probs with the dash format, so I only get plus format now.

phatjiggy: I'm with pulsar. Plus format only for me. It's all about booktyping!

Those dual format burners usually burn either format ok,it's those stand alone players that will tell you which format that they like. If you get a stand alone player/game console/pc drive that gives a no disc/dirty disc/wrong region/or illegal disc error, chances are it's the format of the disc you are using. If you encounter that issue, try the opposite format.

    Benqs/Plextors/LG/Lite-on drives: Definitely plus format-Booktyped to dvd-rom.
NEC/Pioneer/Sony-non rebadged liteys/other drives other than listed:Most likely the dash format.

It's all about the compatability of your backups for your dvd players. That's where they will be played in most of the time.
Those players will tell you which format to use. They'll even tell you if your media is crap or your burner is weak!

I can understand some of the posts defending Memorex and believing they are good quality media.

Here are scans from over a year ago using Memorex Prodisc003 disks and burned at 4x on an Asus DRW1604-P. Using Nero6 Quality Scan on my new BenQ1640 I got these results. These are all respectable scores from a year ago so even though Prodisc003 is included in the bad media category, it still faired well for these last 12 months.

    My point....

Do I purchase Memorex DVD media anymore? NO!
Would I recommend Memorex DVD media to anyone? NO!

Why not if the scores are good?
I believe Creaky’s statement sums it up best...

Why take a chance on ANY media that could be bad when you can get quality media like TY for under 40 cents a piece? They never have a problem, you will have piece of mind, you will have better scores, they will work for years to come, you will not be embarrassed by your friends for using crap media for near the same price... shall I go on???

Bottom line... Why take the chance!

I don't know what all the bad talk about Memorex is about. I ordered a 50 pack of DVD+R for 17.99 USD +S&H from Newegg twice already and none have been bad. No coasters at all they work perfect. When I ran them through DVD Identifier they came up as Ritek and Prodisc media in the two different batches. Both are 2nd class media which is not bad at all, considering the price.

Have you not read the posts? That is why Memorex is so unreliable. If you choose to ignore the advice of lots of experienced people, then more fool you!

[bold]What the hell does it take for people to realise memorex sucks?[/bold]

You may get fair results now, but try playing them 6 months - 1 year down the line. Then you will see that we are correct!

There are people here who have burned thousands of dvds & have done it for years. Are you seriously doubting their word?

Are you talking about burning them as dvd-video or for backing files up? I've had one batch for about 6 months now, those disc I used to back up some files, and they still work great as new.

Yes 4 dollar s&h which comes out to 21.99 . I'll check out the link you posted but it seems broke. :(

And I wish I could run Nero CD-DVD Speed but my NEC 3520a isn't supported, unfortunately. :(
I want to see the results myself.

Ok. So if I was just using them to back up my files, will they be ok in the longer run? That's what I care about more. I've only started burning dvd-videos most recently.

I know you need top quality media for video, but as for normal files, I really do not know!

WOW! This constant Memorex thing just ain't going away, is it ...

All I have to say anymore about leading people in the right direction (directly away from Memorex) is this:

YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER, BUT YOU CAN'T KEEP IT FTOM PEEING IN IT

this has been a good ride and very interesting input that I have certainly learned from and am going to try other media, other than memorex that has been good tome. I do want to thank those that have given me good advice.
