I think the PS3 is cheap really.

pc mag reviews stuff other than pc's all the time.Bluray will be a pc drive too.

 

The other issue about the bad BluRay reviews is that it's probably not the player's fault. The first batch of BD movies were encoded with MPEG2 resulting in a less than impressive picture. If the movies were encoded in MPEG4/VC-1 most likely you'll see a lot less returns of the Samsung player.

 

I agree.That's the thing all of these reviews are based off the first bluray player. a samsung player but ps3 is 5 months away and it's made by sony who is the founder of bluray.

I think the samsung may indeed suck! But I just can't base my "ps3 being overpriced" opinion off of this type of stuff.I know you must understand eatsushi what I'm saying...and sorry if I come accross wrong.

allright but same with hddvd in my magazine that i get it says that they literally hated hddvd and said bluray was better and people should buy a ps3 just to get the bluray, besides the season disks will be cheaper because they still have to fit it on 3 hddvds but on bluray 1 or special features on 2 and 1 on bluray. which will drive bluray disk prices down

I don't know what season discs you're referring to but current BluRay discs can hold only 2 hours of high-def content per single layer 25 Gig disc. This is due to the use of MPEG2 encoding which uses up more space.

True.Of coarse lexZ didn't say anything about the season being in high def which standard def would take much less space than 25 gig for 2 hours. I wonder when the bluray will start encoding in mpeg 4 or other so we can have a real side by side compairison of both bluray and hd dvd .

I also would like to see a different player than the samsung.I don't care about the stupid format war or who wins but I am curious.Either way I think by the time ps3 comes out everything will be kosher. I mean alot can happen in 5 months and that's if ps3 doesn't get delayed.

 

I see your point tycobb. However, studios probably won't release standard def material on BluRay discs as this would be a waste of the technology. BluRay is inherently a high def format. Standard def material will be released on regular DVD's.

 

Really dang that sucks.I was hoping maybe a whole season of lost could come on 1 bluray disc instead of like 10 dvd's lol.It's annoying having to switch disc's and worry about scratching 1 of the 10.

 

Putting a whole season of Lost on one disc would be cheaper and make more sense for the consumer but will be less profitable for the studios. So you have to bet they won't do it. You know how greedy they can get.

 

it really is a very good value for whats in the box I would have paid at least 400$ for a cell chip im my PC add a blu-ray player and ill take it

 

@dblbogey7 yeah I hear ya lol.Well maybe bluray will come down in price.Back when dvd's came out they were expensive too although not as much as bluray.But I mean I assume some day bluray and will be $10 a disc or less.It takes more labor to press 10 discs than just 1.But that's no time soon anyways.

Nobody answered my question. If i take the time to get the link am i any way benefitting from it, there wont be any minds changed and the information will only be scrutinized. ITs not that i wish to sway people from getting the ps3 its just that its not a justifable purchase so when people say oh its better than the 360 because and etc. i simply state its overpriced and why i feel that way.If you or any other person wants to spend the money so be it but im not going to simlply concede to the statement that ps3 is worth the money.Its as if you were to say chocolate chip ice cream is worth 30 bucks i would refute that not because i dont want you to waste you money,i dont care for your money i would refute it because of common sense and logic.Refering back to what i said up top about minds changed,when i say that i mean minds changing to see that the ps3 is overpriced not to change their minds on actually not purchasing it.For example im not sure who it was but someone else provided the link about the percentage rate for returns for the blu-ray players and did that do any good???
