Does anyone know of any retail or mail order outlet(UK based) that has this dvd burner in stock, or which one is likely to have it back in stock the earliest. I've looked everywhere(almost) and answers range from 'don't know' to 'will be soon but can't tell you when'! Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanx in advance

took me 4 months to get hold of sony dru500a which is basically the same, i pursume that you want the drive to do both formats, so check this one out at blankdiscshop uk based it does both formats and are getting it in stock NEC ND-1300 4x DVD writer supporting DVD+R(W) and DVD-R(W). If not you will just have to be lucky one day and stroll across it like i did.

Have a look on e-bay mate thats where i got my DRX 500UL (external version) from after getting peed off with being told "no there out of stock" or do you want to buy from a shop for the warranty in which case i don`t know.
I can't belive there still out of stock everywhere i got mine about 3 months ago and it was the same story then.

By the way it's a excellent drive worth the wait.

After 2 months of searching I got a dru500ax on Friday from overclock.co.uk for £269. However, i got the last one, but i think they said they'd be getting another handful of drives sometime next week.

Thanx already for your help. I should be getting the sony this afternoon if all goes well. For those interested www.ctdl.co.uk (Stoke on Trent) have the sony in stock as well as the new NEC-1300A (which does x4-/+ too). If you pretend you're running a small business(just invent a name), you'll get it a reduced trade price.
I have a quick question: on my 2nd IDE channel I have a 48x CD Recoder & a DVDRom drive. Shall i keep the CDRW for increased CDcopy speed or keep the DVDRom for 'on the fly' DVD copying(of non copyrighted material)? Also, from your experience, shall I put the Sony on Master, Slave or leave it to Cable Select?
    Thanx again for your help
    Oli
