I have several AVI's of a TV show that I would like to burn to a dvd. I have WinAVI and can convert them to Audio TS and Video TS and I can burn them. But I cannot seem to figure out how to put more than 1 of the shows on the same dvd. Each show is approx 350MB. I use Nero for Burning, but am open to other programs that will work. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
Hi, by the time an avi file gets converted to dvd (mpeg) , a 350 Mb file becomes about 2.3Gb. So multiple dvds on 1 dvd-5 disc may not be possible. The easiest way is to burn the avi fies onto a disc and then play them on a divx compatible player. Jo
Hi Jory5150, If you want to convert the .avi's to DVD format before burning, you've a couple of choices.. 1st is DVD Flick (free).. Haven't used this one in a while so not overly familiar with it... I'm sure there are plenty of folks here that are though... Last time I used it, I was able to get about 2 hours (2 episodes or 1 movie) on a DVD-5... wasn't able to figure out how to get any more than that and on the computer I was using, it took about 10 hours start to finish (very olllllldddddddd desktop). 2nd is ConvertXtoDVD (this one isn't free).... Found this one when I was getting frustrated with DVD Flick.. I had a movie that was split into 3 parts and couldn't get them joined back together without the audio & video going out of sync (was a complete newbie at all of this and hadn't found this wonderful forum yet)... ConvertXtoDVD has a "merge" function that allowed me to seamlessly rejoin all 3 segments of the movie with perfect sync all the way through.. So I was sold... It also will let you put approximately 4 hours (or episodes or 2 movies) on a DVD-5 without any quality loss (DVD Flick might be able to do that as well, I just couldn't figure out how). There may be other programs that can convert and burn .avi to DVD, but these are the only ones I am familiar with... My preference is obviously ConvertXtoDVD, its what I'm used to and does everything I want it to, but again, its not a free program... Both programs have user forums DVD Flick and ConvertXtoDVD 3 so you might want to check them out for more info...
Hi bryston, Not exactly correct. It's always about the running time when converting to DVD. The size of the source file doesn't matter in the least. On another thread someone claimed to have downloaded an 11GB AVI that was a 2 1/2 hour movie. When converted to DVD it would easily fit on a 4.7GB disc. Many folks have experience with 700 and 1400MB (2x700) downloads, again size doesn't really matter as the 1400MB AVI isn't twice as long, sometimes it's only 10 minutes longer. Both sizes will fit on a DVD-5 when converted. In the OP's example I'll take a guess and assume his 350MB AVIs run about 44 minutes. 44 X 3 = 132 min or about 2 hrs. and 12 minutes. Three of his 350MB files should easily fit on a DVD-5 with decent/good quality (the video bitrate would be about 4400kb/s which is acceptable for Xvid conversion). @ Joleca Converting just one hour to DVD will result in quality loss, 4 hours would be an abomination on the larger screens that most folks are moving to. Although I like CXD3, it's 1 pass ffmpeg based encoder is not well suited for longer run times, it's been speed optimized.
