I want to transfer my 300+ DVD collection to a multimedia hard drive like http://www.freecom.com/ecproduct_detail.asp?ID=2637 I will need to use some form of compression but don't want to lose quality!...will be playing them on a panasonic Viera 42" plasma. What sort of compression software should I be using?..and once the device is plugged into the TV how can I make a simple menu so I can scroll through the movies and select them to play? Anyone already done this?
I'd recommend AoA DVD Ripper, it is the best software I have used for DVD ripping, much faster than any I tested. To get the best result, you'd better copy your DVDs to the HD in AVI format, using DivX or XviD codec for compression ( Settings > AVI Settings > Video Codec). This useful guide may help you http://www.aoamedia.com/dvd-to-divx.htm
You can try Wondershare DVD to iPod Ripper. It use the latset encode technology H.264,then the conversion quality far from you can image, with just 1/10 of the original size. you can download free from here http://www.dvd-ripper-copy.com/download/dvd-iPod-download.html i hope it is useful to you
