    I am new here and have already recieved 25+ pm's from members asking me for step-by-step's and spoon feeding. Even a way to enable/disable pm box from my account CP would be great. That way I can enable it long enough to communicate if I feel the need. If it wasn't for most of the PM's pertaining to info already answered or easily answered in the public forums, I wouldn't be inquiring here.

    Very good suggestion...any way of implementing something like this?

    WOULD YOU GUYS consider enforcing the banning of people who actually abuse the message system.

    I know this bit is in the rules;

    [bold]11. Don't abuse private messages -- if your post CAN be posted to public forums, POST IT to public forums. Some of our knowledgeable members receive hundreds of private messages daily and might abandon the site if asking questions through private messages continues.
    [/bold]

    Heres an example: creaky and i were helping a newbie with a firmware problem.We both work and i think there was a span of time when we didnt get back to the thread.So instead of waiting for a reply i recieved this in my inbox.

    wont reveal the poster but this could of waited:

    I recieve about 12 or so a week.........Its is annoying but well i guess we are hewre to help?????????????

    Has any one got a comment!!!!!!!!!

    i get a few from time to time, if it's something that should belong in a public thread - i advise the PM'er to do so and PM back with the link to the thread. if it's annoying ie spam or downright rubbish/ignorance i respond accordingly. other than that it's ppl saying hello or whatever and i'm fine about it. basically if they p*** me off or shouldn't be PM'in me i just report it..

    Yeah, andmerr. If they just ask a small question (ie all you have to do is point them in the right direction) Then I don't mind.
    But asking for a step by step is taking the piss. I have only been asked once or twice for a step by step. I have given one, but that's it. I don't intend to dish out anymore.

    It's not only against the rules, but I can remember [bold]loaded[/bold] posting a sticky about it. I'll link you to it when I can find the thread.

    reckon drd would oblige us with a new little function for the forum to say yes or no to pms.Think the phpbb boards still run with that ,dont know about the vision boards though

    Nothing offensive or anything like that. I posted a little tutorial on how to convert cheat codes and a few people kept sending me private messages over and over again wanting different cheat codes converted for several games and I have just gotten tired of it. So, I started to ignore the pm's figuring they would get the hint and leave me alone. What happened was, they sent pm's saying "what heppened?", "where'd you go?", "why aren't you responding?".

    This is one pm from one guy:

    They have finally stopped pm'img me (thank god). What I was hoping for was to weed out people like this. I don't mind helping people at all. It's just some people take advantage and even after I explain how to do things step by step, they still ask me to do it for them.
