lately i have been getting this error iastor.sys.
is there anyway to fine out what is causing the failure?
    dell xps410.
    edit:
after searching i found that the problem might be in
Intel® Matrix Storage Manager by still looking for the fix

so what does Intel® Matrix Storage Manager do?

if it helps the other thing i noticed about the pc is on reboot with the xp blue led light that goes from left to right under the xp loco freezes on this pc. none of my other ones that have xp freeze like this. i dont know if it means anything

It's a problem with a glitched release of a Dell driver. If you've updated any drivers recently, roll them back or see if there's a newer version.

All I can suggest is have a google and see what driver the iastor.sys links to, then find an updated version of it. Have you added any new hardware to your PC recently?

Since the fault is with a storage driver, that's enough. Is the hard drive IDE or S-ATA?

Then it's probably just that a driver needs updating or reinstalling.

DiskPeripheral : WDC WD5000AAKS-00YGA0 iaStor Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off

According to a post on another forum I found, Dell don't even acknowledge this issue, even though it appears to be quite widespread. If you still have a proper warranty with them I'd demand to know what's up.
