I have an 8600 gt nvidia graphics card hooked up to my monitor and i am trying to attach a second monitor onto my original monitor hookup that came on the mother board. I have tried the display settings but have not had any success, is there anything else i should be doing? I have also tried restarting my computer and messing with the cables to make sure they are attached. I also have windows vista.
can't have a monitor run off onboard video at same time having another monitor run off a videocard. need a videocard that has dual outputs to work.
Hi everyone. Not sure if this is relevent, but if you have dual graphics cards (I have two NVIDIA 8600 GTS cards inside my Dell XPS 720 tower PC), you cannot use two monitors if the two cards have SLI enabled. My NVIDIA card has two DVI sockets, but I must have SLI disabled before I can use two monitors at the same time. I also use Windows Vista (Home Premium 32-bit.) Because I am not a PC gamer, having SLI disabled does not slow things down too much! At the moment I am using a Dell 2407WFP 24" 16:10 hi-def TFT LCD monitor as my primary display and a Sony SDM-HS74PB 17" 4:3 as my secondary display. Using two monitors is beautiful with Web browsing, using Word and Excel etc. Alastair C Parker
Some cheap-o mainboards dissable onboard video when you plug in a PCIE-x16 card automaticaly. Check your bios to see if it has been dissabled and if you can override this. Also, the 8600GT usualy has 2 ports on it, and they are both better than your onboard video.
yep, figured out how to hook both up to the 8600gt. i just needed a converter for my old monitor to work with the digital input.
