ok so ive orderd my SATA via6421a chipset. i have a samsung drive (im thinking its a ms28). now my sata is gona arrive tomorw so i wanted to get some stuff clear before i flash. on the iextreme theres Fast and theres Quite. im not alaways going to use good high quality media but my DL dvds that i buy can burn at speeds of 8x so this is good right? which one do i go for? fast or quite. Also i heard that going for Quite will mean your laser will burn out quickly?
Good question. I just recently updated my fw to 1.2 and was wondering the same thing. I did the quiet but if thats true about the laser I might change it. Hope somenone here knows more about it who can answer.
Well I can say the Quite fw is really quiet. I noticed it doesnt work as hard as before. I figured it be better in comparison to the fast which may make the 360 work harder and in theory get hot faster. But im just speculating, who knows?
Back in January with 5.2 and just last week with the ixtreme 1.2. Its a MS28 using PS2Menace guide in this forum.
I keep mine fast, because in sandbox games like Saints Row or Crackdown there's noticeable lag and slowdown in loading of textures when driving to different areas when the game has to do in game loading. It's like the disc can't be read fast enough to keep up with the game at those parts. Other than that slow is nice, because it's a lot quieter.
well i dont really care about the sound lool. i just worry about the health of my 360. i dont want the laser to die etc. so i should flash Fast?
You may as well keep it fast as that's how it was intended to run in the 1st place. Slow read allows for shoddier media or less than great burns to run which could be harder a laser in the long run.
@Memnock So I assume its ok to switch from Quiet to the Fast just by reflashing? It appears that is what you have done. I did notice a little lag in some games and didnt realize that could be the cause of it.
Yes can switch to any firmware you like as many time as you like with no issues. At least there haven't been any issues that I've seen.
