Is there a chance that a part of my ps2 motherboard is busted if my ps2 cant read dvd's but still it can read cd's?

Ive been thinking to fix my another ps2 version 7 with (khs400c lens)
but i dont want to waste my money, what i mean is if ill buy a another (khs 400c lens) will this really work? What im really afraid of is what if it doesnt work? then i just wasted my money!

If a ps2 cant read dvd's, is the problem only the lens? or there is also a part inside the motherboard that needed to be replace?

I asked one of our ps2 technicians here and he seems to be 100% sure that its only the lens thats the problem... and he is asking me for a downpayment... (he will replace my lens and then if its fix i will give the full payment!)

    Anyone encountered this problem before?

Is it just the lens that is needed to be replace so that the ps2 can read DVD's again and it doesnt have to do anything with the motherboard?

    Your help is Greatly appreciated!!!!!!
