If i format my hdd can i still install ubuntu linux ?

    Hi my laptop is filled with viruses and i have tried super anti spyware,avg and spybot search and destroy all with no luck so i have decided to format my hdd but i have no way of reinstalling windows so i thought id try linux is that a good plan or not? but most of all would it work? lol any advice would be most appreciated

    You don't even need to format to see what Linux looks like. Most versions (known as distributions) you can just throw a CD in the drive and a couple of minutes later you're using Linux. It is also the installer, so if you're happy with the way it looks and works, you're only a few minutes away from formatting Windows and starting fresh with Linux.

    If your laptop is a couple years old chances are almost everything should work no problems. Wireless and graphics cards can often be difficult the first time around for new users, but using a big distro like Ubuntu can make it quite straightforward, requiring just a few extra clicks of the mouse and a network cable temporarily.

    ok but the problem is my laptop is so filled with viruses that nothing can get rid of them i cant even use an internet browser so i want to format the hd to get rid of the virus then install ubuntu as i have no way of installing windows again

    so... just boot the ubuntu disk and follow the instructions. DON'T boot windows first but set the bios to boot from cd.
