Hi, I have a set of DVDs in IFO format. They are from a TV shoot and what I'd like to do is edit them down to useable lengths (5-10 minutes) and post them on our website so future media professionals can 1) view them from the website and 2) use them for their own purposes.

My questions are: can I edit (cut out footage I don't need) while in the IFO format? If so, what user-friendly (and possibly free) program can I use? If not, how I do convert them to an edit-able format (MPEG) and can our website visitors them use for TV in this format?

DVD Shrink can be used to select clips from a DVD Title
Open the files and click 'Re-author'.
Drag 'Title 1' from the right pane to the left.
Highlight the title, right click and from the context menu select 'Set start/end frames'.
Click 'Backup' and save the clip to a new folder.

If you wish to convert the new clip as an MPEG-2 file (instead of the DVD format), open it in VOB2MPG and let it convert it.

An alternative is to load the clip in the likes of AviDemux and save in AVI or FLV.
