    hi!
    i just bought new dvds, sony's AccuCORE, and succesfully burned a data dvd. today i tried to burn a video dvd, but i got the illegal disc error. i tried with several other recording software, with the same error.
    after searching trough this page, i updated my firmware (there is still a possibility of an old firmware file, but i did not get a newer one anywhere), but it was already updated as the executable file said :)

    anyway, here is the log, do your magic :

    From what I see Nero cannot recognize the media?
    What Blank media are you using?
    pIf its a NEW media its probbaly not supported by new firmware yet,
    You may want to try another type of media

    Use the following as a guide.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

    The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
    the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.

    Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
    PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
    MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
    MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
    TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
    TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

    Also your free memory is really low

    You need to turn off everything you can when burning,
    And you really need some more memory in your computer.
    With 90% of your memory in use you will probably gett skipping
    and or errors on the disc as well after burning.

    Hi Hilter
    Just to add to Jizmak good advice -
    Your firmware is up to date and what I found on this last version it did not include the media code for 16x Sony -R's.
    Probably the reason for your illegal disc w/ the different programs.

    For -R media - look for 8x Verbs, Sony and Taiyo Yuden- these were some of the media codes in the latest version.

    So these discs may be hit or miss on this drive.
    I would try and take them back and exchange them if you can.

    thank you all.
    i just removed the roxio drivers, but the error is the same :) the really weird thing is, that writing data dvd's works great, only video dvd's throw this error.
    looks like i'll just have to get some other dvd pack....
    thank you anyway

    i just tried it, but same error :(

    first i removed the new version, used the cleaning tool, and put the version you posted. but it's all the same.

    could a reason be, that i installed only part of the nero ( without nero cover designer and other useless stuff - they are useless for me :D). but i doubt it

    Now that you have tried again, post your latest failed Nero log so we can take another look.

    You really don't have enough RAM to do DVD burning projects. Although that's not likely your issue, you should upgrade to at least 512MB and definitely don't have any background programs running while burning. Another thing:

    [/bold]

    You are burning too close to the outside edge of your media. Select a custom output size and use 4350MB.

    I'm having the most terrible time trying to burn a data dvd.... I've never had this problem in the past. I've always used the same brand of dvds which are Sony DVD-R accucoure.... however I haven't had a need to burn a data dvd in the past couple of months but when I went to make one today I kept getting this illegal disc error message right after the cache process had completed.... here's my log:-----------------------------------------------------------------

    @Nels6354, You are lucky that this yhread is being answered, you have hijacked this thread which is against forum rules, read them and next time start one of your own, having said that heres your results.

    This version of Nero is known to be "buggy", uninstall, run this clean tool, http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html and then install this version, BOTH packages

    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Package 2
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

    Update firmware to 2.18 from here http://support.necsam.com/oem/downloads/flashfirmware/dl/K251GN81.exe
