You are burning too slowly, burn at 4x or 8x with good media.

    Also

Those disks are poor. Use Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Ritek disks. If you use any of those, then you can burn up to 12x.

Nah, mine does that too. I think you should have "max", "2.4x", "2x" and "1x". Select max and it should burn at max speed.

Have you changed disks? Also, try uninstalling your drive in hardware manager and then rebooting windows.

I checked your firmware for your drive...... the latest firmware shows 1.04C and you have 2.01. http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=1105

I checked the site (i used http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php) and it didn't mention his firmware, so i presumed the version he had was different, because on the site i checked, there is no mention of

Ok, the comp is about a year old ansd is a dell, i've only updated the sound and gfx cards on this thing, i can burn dvd=rw and cd-r just fine, it's these dvd-r discs that give me hassle although the hardware is able to burn dvd-r. So where do i find this firmware? or shoud i leave it as is and just go get different discs?
