I've searched through the threads but haven't seen exactly what I've encountered. My project started about 2 weeks ago with burning captured video onto this external burner. Edited using VideoRedo and burned with Nero. I ran out of DVD-R media (Maxel 4x, Memorex 8x, Sony 8x that I had purchased in 12/2004). I thought no problem, I went and picked up some 16x Memorex DVD-R from Best Buy and tried to copy the burned disc I had captured. Illegal disc error. I thought maybe the 16x was giving me problems so I let Nero determine maximum speed. Still no luck. I found 2 more discs from my older stock and tried to burn them. They worked!

I've updated firmware and updated Nero but everytime I try to burn I get an error (see below). I've even gone so far as using my laptop and doing a direct copy (without an image) but no luck.

Any help would be appreciated. Memorex Tech support has evidently died because they won't answer my e-mails.

Wow you do have the newest huh. That version was just released today.

The only thing I see is you are attempting to copy on the fly. Thats not a real good idea.

Your system is a notebook huh?

Those tpp drivers for the usb I think I got newer versions of them on my server. I will check and if so will put a link to them here for you.

    These are version 5.4.1150

    http://www.mtc-comp.com/tpp_Win-xp.zip

I dont know if the drivers are causing the problem but could be.

let me clarify a little bit here.... whompus is just way too funny !!

    wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong....
    here's your version...
and here is nero's latest..... 6.6.1.18 <--- lol

hmmm, wonder why.... memorex.. for a lack of better words SUX
stick with verbatim, TY, maxell, sony, fuji, or ritek.

good god.... you have no memory !! 43mb left... buy more ram !!
88% usage... you need to close all, and i mean ALL programs while using nero, when it encodes, its very cpu intensive..
close all programs, firewalls, anti-virus proggies, screen savers, anything that uses cpu, besides vital stuff, shut it down !!

not my preferred choice of media...

perhaps the burner does not like the media, but then again, i dont like that burner either !!! lol

try some of that first, then see what happens !!

Thanks for the tips. I'll try the USB driver updates and increasing the RAM %. On a side note, I tried Sony, Verb and the Memorex media. None worked on either the laptop (from the error report) or an older (albeit less powerful) desktop. Based on another post, I'm also going to try and defrag the hard drive and go with the image first. I'll let you know later. Thanks for the help thus far. Sorry for the heartburn gear79

I don't know if it was the USB drivers, writing the image to the HD or the freeing up of memory but I was able to burn a Verb disk @ 6x. At least that's better than I've had in the last few days. Still going to defrag the hard drive which should speed up the write process a little. Definitely looks like I need the new memory though. Thanks for the help.

@ whompus.... i stand corrected, my nero does not have blu-ray.
i guess i was reading it somewhere else !! my bad !

@ gwen, yes, i just found that out myself on nero's update, matter of fact, Jeanc1 told me about it..

@ cfro, we are here to help........ not a bother, although sometimes people do tend to get a bit itchy sometimes !!

cfro...Glad to hear you got it sorted. Don't realy matter what part or if it took it all to fix it as long as you are burning again and happy.

Gear that does bring up a good point. If its not in 7 yet there will most likely be another update shortly for 7. I will when I get time make an image of my hd in the other computer so I can go back to my system as it is now. Then install 7 on it to see if it is there.
